We were fortunate that we thought to nbook well in advance: the restaurant is understandly popular.
Four of us dined, and after a delay in ordering drinks (10 minutes) there were no more hiccups in the service.
We had a fixed price Christmas Meal - three courses that included poached pear, crusted brie, trio of fish and fig crostini.
The main course was again a selection, with two opting for pork fillets, one for roast beef and the fourth for duck breast.
As smoothound54 commented the Royal Forest Pudding is a delighted that you really must leave room for! However, two of the party went for the customary panna cotta and the chocolate torte.... misguided people
The restaurant is part of a small hotel that was once the home of David Mushet, the Forest ironmaster.
It oozes character, is run by a couple who clearly enjoy running a popular eating house, and who don't believe in piling on the pence on an excellent little wine list. We'll be back!
