A first visit to The Rock, but I would hope not the last. We have had 3 nights in this excellent B&B (we being one couple with 3 spaniels, and our friends stopped there for 2 nights with their spaniel). They really were dog freindly, and even topped up the dog's water bowl we had left there when making up the room so that there was fresh water for the dogs on our return.
The setting was ideal for walking in the forest and the owners are happy to give guidance on the best routes (most interesting, most accessible, shortest, longest etc.), and on good places to eat. One one morning two of our party had to be out before breakfast, so they took the time to make up some bacon butties we could take for them when we met up later. Nothing was too much trouble.

I could say that it was so bad that I couldn't possibly recommend it, but if I did it would only be to try make sure that it wasn't fully booked the next time I want to go there.

This is the third time we have stayed at this B&B.
Breakfast is, as always, excellent.
Their maps and local knolwedge of places to eat mean we don't need to do any ressearch - just turn up and enjoy.
And the scenery at Symonds Yat is amazing.

We have just returned from our 2nd visit to The Rock B and B and we will be looking at what dates we have available through the summer to book it up again.
This time we went as a group of 5 plus 2 dogs - 2 couples and a teenager. We booked the twin room (dog friendly), the single room (dog friendly) and the valley view studio for 4 nights. All rooms were great, ready for us on arrival and perfectly clean, with tea / coffee / hot chocolate and biscuits provided. Our friends stayed in the studio and the views are truely stunning. Within minutes of arrival we was making use of the hot tub!
As usual Chris and Lindy were perfect hosts ensuring everyone was settled into their rooms, explained how everything worked and answered any questions. The room book provided plenty of info about local attractions / walks and resturants.
Each morning a delicious full English was provided, all the ingredients are delicious and sourced locally, you can taste the quality. Lighter options are available if that's what you wanted, yogurt, cereal, toast, tea, coffee, juice etc you really couldn't want for a better start to the day, Lindy is a very chatty, friendly and welcoming host and serves tea and coffee throughout. After breakfast Chris checks the guests are happy and offers walks, local attractions or local events to keep you entertained throughout the day.
I love this B and B, it offers quality food and accomodation, excellent hosts and brilliant local information. We love the fact that Chris has such great knowledge of the local area and provides many walks right from the door so everyone can have a drink and walk home safely without needing the car. I didn't have time to look this time but there are plenty of leaflets on local activities such as cycling, fishing, kyaking etc some offering discount to The Rock B and B residents. I have stayed here twice now and really have nothing negative to say about the hosts or B and B. It provides all of our needs to high standards,

From the moment we arrived at the rock, we were warmly welcomed by the owners and their two lovely dogs.
I have had dogs and our freinds took their dogs and the B&B were very accommodating. Any previous reviews on 'not dog friendly' should be completely ignored, as even as a dog person, I'd prefer not have dogs at the breakfast table.
There seemed an endless number of walks from the rock, many mapped out by the owners themselves that were laminated and are very easy to follow. The owners also provided a book of local pubs and places to go, and both owners seemed to have all the time in the world to share their local knowledge.
We had the studio room, which was spotlessly clean, had a very comftable bed and a good size bathroom. The views from the duel aspect windows were lovely, looking down into the valley. A really nice sight when openning the curtains in the morning.
All this for the price I paid, I would thoroughly recommend the rock and I have no doubt I will return.

Just back from a fabulous stay at The Rock near Coleford. We stayed in the Studio room, with dual aspect views over the valley. The room was immaculate and owners very friendly. The maps supplied by Chris were wonderful, meaning we didn't need to use the car very much at all. Our friends brought their dogs and found the dog-friendly room perfect for their needs also. We will be visiting again soon I hope! xxx

We've just spent 3 nights at the Rock B&B and had a lovely time. The room was totally spotless with lovely crisp sheets and a very spacious wet room. Our room had a kitchenette which we didn't need but could have been really useful. The breakfasts were delicious and kept us fuelled until well into the afternoon! The views from our room were beautiful and if we'd had more time we definitely would have tried the hot tub. We also got great advice from our hosts re the best places to cycle locally. Definitely looking forward to coming back!

Room Tip: Ask for one of the lovely rooms in the garden which have great views!

This is our second visit to The Rock following a short visit last year after googling B&B's near the Forest of Dean, so we had to go back. We stayed for three nights over the Easter Weekend in the double dog friendly room with our two labs. The room was perfect for us and has enough room to set up two crates for the dogs. The normal rules apply for dogs in a B&B, not allowed on furniture, not allowed to be left in the room unattended and not allowed in the breakfast room. In our room the bathroom has a shower and no bath, but this B&B has the luxury of a hot tub that you can book (for no extra charge) for 30 mins. The view from the hot tub is across the rolling fields. As we had some friends staying in one of the larger rooms with the oven and fridge in, we had a look and I thought the room was fab with a very large double bed, lounge area and large bathroom with bath and double shower in. I have stayed in many hotels and I have to say that room in my eyes would be a top end 4* hotel room. Location is fab, you cross the road (not a busy road) and you are then in the forest. So you don't have to drive anywhere to start a fab walk. From The Rock you can walk to Symonds Yat (all in the Forest) in about 40 mins. Chris and Lindy are very welcoming and could not be more helpful with info about walks and local events. The breakfast is amazing and certainly filled me up for my long walks each day . . . No lunch was required for me!! Oh and you also get free wifi. I am sure I have forgotten something but I would recommend The Rock to anyone, whether you have dogs or not. We will be back as there is so much more to explore. Thanks Chris and Lindy for making this years Easter Hols great
