“Pleasant but a little too relaxed?”
Reviewed February 11, 2013

Called in for a late lunch on a Monday and found staff rather elusive and casual about ordering, giving a bill and getting paid. The restaurant was quite empty - there seemed to be more activity in the kitchen who were in vocal high spirits sometimes (nice to hear) and whose radio was pretty much the only sound around. Food fine, clean loos and free wifi.

“A little thought needed.”
Reviewed December 19, 2012

As far as Harversters go this is a very place with the usual menu although I do feel it is somewhat dated and needs revising, the introduction of some new dishes would be welcome for example, Chilli con Carni, some Curry dishes Fajitas. The sweets are mostly Ice Cream based and look lovely but are disappointing as the Ice Cream has nearly always started to melt by the time you get it and it runs all down the glass, and as it is not served on a plate usually makes a mess all over the table. I was particularly disappointed by the Banoffi Sundae which seemed to consist of soggy biscuits, The childrens menu is served on a paper place mat which the children immediately want to colour in making it difficult to select a meal. On the last two occasions I have visited with my grandson the pencils offered were all blunt and the waitress had no means of sharpening them, we ended up with one very disappointed child. We have visited recently and again given a menu which can be coloured in but no crayons or pencils at all this time. If you are going to give out these menus for colouring in please supply some crayons with them. They are brilliant for keeping small children occupied while waiting for their meal. A small pack of crayons would not cost much and this gesture would be appreciated, otherwise change the menus to something that does not have to be coloured in when there are no crayons. If you are going to give out balloons give them to all the children not just the parents who ask for them, personally I would rather have a small pack of 5 crayons than a balloon.

“Oh dear !”
Reviewed December 12, 2012

I didn't have huge expectations and wasn't disappointed. The restaurant wasn't very warm and some of my friends complained of being really cold.
The turkey was processed meat and we all joked that if you put a vegetable in your mouth blindfold, you wouldn't be able to tell what it was from the taste.
Vegetarian gravy was ordered but they couldn't guarentee that the gravy they served was actually vegetarian. The peas were shrivelled, carrots ... well suffice to say none of the vegetables were great. Desserts were not great either, most of our large party left the majority of the meal. Cream came from a squirty can !.
The ladies toilets, of which there were 3, 2 didn't flush and the 3rd which no one would use had a brown stained seat.
I know this is not expensive food and it was edible but certainly not enjoyable. However we all had a good evening because it was so bad.
The staff were very attentive until we paid and left no tip, we then wanted coffee and waited a good 15 minutues before we could get anyones attention.
McDonalds is next door and a few of our party joked about going in there afterwards, at least you know exactly what to expect from there.
Come on Harvester, reasonably priced food can still be tasty can't it ?
