“Amazing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 18, 2013

Just wanted to say a huge thank you to the staff at Great Fosters for the most amazing afternoon tea. I took my mum last Sunday for a mothers day treat. We were greated with a very warm welcome and taken to a perfect table next to a grand open fire. The selection of sandwichs, scones and pastries were divine and the endless tea was amazing. My mum enjoyed every moment and said she felt very special and spoilt. I can not recommend Great Fosters highly enough and thank you again

Thank you for your lovely comments regarding your recent visit to us for afternoon tea. I'm so pleased that you and your mum had a wonderful afternoon and left feeling spoilt - that was the aim!

Please do come back and visit us again soon, perhaps in the Summer when you will hopefully be able to enjoy tea on the terrace in the sunshine.

We arrived to a very helpful reception staff and then to our room - which had been upgraded to overlook the beautiful formal garden and moat. Champagne arrived lovely! The Staff are great the Hotel is pure history.
Our evening meal was excellent and so to the breakfast and afternoon cream tea. What more can I say a wonderful break away, even though the weather was rotten. We were approx 7 miles from Windsor Castle where we had a great day out, followed by our second day at Hampton Court.

From the moment you arrive to the afternoon tea in the Tudor Room and dinner in the majestic Oak room and sleeping in Baroness Halkett room you will love the quintessential English hotel set in delightful surroundings. Lovely and even better value with Travel Zoo voucher that makes the stay fantastic!

My husband and I stayed here on 2nd Jan 13. We were in the Tapestry room. This huge room is absolutely wonderful with an amazing bathroom. It has a good sound system with some nice classical CD's which really fit with the house. This was our second stay and I have to say that both times have been great.

We had booked initially with a £199 Travelzoo offer, (we upgraded to the suite), and then booked direct with the hotel for our second visit. We had cream tea when we arrived, champagne in our room and then a fantastic 3 course meal in the evening. After an excellent night's sleep a full breakfast was served in the morning. I actually commented to one of the senior members of staff that we felt that they had one of the best buffet breakfasts we have been offered in a hotel. Their home-made muesli is fantastic. The hot food was cooked to order. The only thing that they didn't have was my husband's favourite eggs benedict. It would be nice to see this added to their breakfast menu.

I can honestly say this hotel ticks all the boxes, the service, cleanliness, rooms and great chefs who serve wonderful food. There is nothing to fault.

When we stayed in January, they had just closed their main restaurant for refurbishment. Whilst the dining room we ate in was rather large, (I believe it is their function room), they had made it feel comfortable considering it was a quiet time after Christmas and therefore less people staying.

The following morning on the way to breakfast, due to the refurbishment, there was lots of staff moving furniture around the hotel from the original dining room and yet still it was done without causing any disruption. They are very professional and do put guests first.

Great Fosters is a wonderful hotel with an amazing restaurant. Sadly we can only afford it when they have special offers on, but one we can book knowing it will definitely be a great stay. I am happy however, that we will be returning there next week and I am very much looking forward to our stay. We will always keep a look out for their special offers.

Room Tip: For a special romantic stay book a historic room. The Tapestry room looks out both the front and bac...

My wife and I stayed here for a night in March 2013 as part of a Travelzoo voucher offer which included room, dinner for two, cream teas and breakfast. I decided to pay the additional £50 and upgrade to the Tapestry Room which was amazing and well worth the additional cost. The room itself is cavernous, the walls draped with old tapestries (hence the name) and you really feel like you are stepping back in time. The bathroom was equally impressive with a huge walk in shower and an ornate roll top bath. The height of luxury.

The staff were all very friendly too. The sommeiler in the restaurant had a rather charming handle bar moustache and an honest wit that was refreshing. The food in the main restaurant was generally pretty tasty - effective rather than seductive. Portion sizes were a little mean but in keeping with what you'd expect with "haute cuisine". Desert was disappointing.

It was a cold night and it was great to round off the evening relaxing by the open fire in the cocktail bar, sipping good whisky from an enviably extensive, yet expensive, menu.

All in all, thoroughly recommended. Only real downside is location as this hotel sits pretty much on top of the M25. So although it looks like an idyllic country retreat, if you take a stroll in the grounds all you can hear is the constant hum of motorway traffic. Bit distracting if you're trying to unwind.

We stayed at this achingly beautiful historic hotel with a Travelzoo voucher which made it very reasonable. We were in the "cloisters", an annex to the main house and the lovely room had all mod cons and plenty of toiletries, generous hospitallity tray etc
The staff were very very good and made us feel special and very welcome. The grounds were extensive and attractive even out of season.
The only gripe really was the early breakfast finish (9 45am both Sat and Sun) and check out (11am) which spoiled the relaxing nature of our break.
However would not hesitate to recommend this hotel and would love to come back in June when the roses are out and the outdoor swimming pool open.

An overnight luxurt break that started with champagne, scones and tea sitting by a coal fire and finished with a walk round the lovely gardens the following morning after a great breakfast. In between there was fantastic, friendly service and a wonderful dinner. Couldn't fault a thing!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Probably built as a Royal Hunting lodge and very much a stately home since the 16th century, Great Fosters is now a prestigious hotel, awarded 4 red stars by the AA. Set amongst 50 acres of gardens and parkland, the hotel is a Grade One listed building blessed with the grandeur of 16th century England and luxurious modern facilities. Its past is evident in the mullioned windows, tall chimneys, fireplaces and brick finials, while the Saxon moat, crossed by a Japanese bridge, surrounds three sides of the formal garden. All the suites and bedrooms are individually decorated. The bedrooms in the Main House are adorned with tapestries and antiques, whilst the bedrooms in The Cloisters are more contemporary in style. The refurbished Coach House offers luxurious accommodation with the latest plasma screens, i-pod docking stations and fabulous bathrooms. The hotel has two restaurants - The Estate Grill has been awarded two rosettes by the AA and serves a simple and seasonal menu with many of the dishes using produce grown on the estate and cooked on a Josper grill. The Tudor Room was awarded a Michelin star and three rosettes by the AA in October 2016 and is an intimate sophisticated restaurant open for lunch on a Thursday & Friday and for dinner from Wednesday to Saturday inclusive. ... more   less
