“Amazing Afternoon Tea Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 13, 2011

I recently had the pleasure to experience afternoon tea here as a special gift for my 30th Birthday. A small group of us were shown to a private room with a fireplace where we had expert service for the entire afternoon. The food was beautiful and delicate. After a few hours of indulgence we then had a turn around the wonderful gardens before having to say goodbye. Something I will always remember. Thank you to the hotel and the staff for making it so special.

Thank you for writing a review.

I'm so pleased you and your friends enjoyed your 30th birthday celebration. Please come and visit us again - perhaps during the Winter months when you can enjoy tea in front of one of our fires.

We recently visited the hotel for afternoon tea, we were made to feel at home straight away, the waiting staff were first class and the tea was very nice, we did nt want to leave the log fire and cosy arm chairs.

We have just returned from an amazing stay at Great Fosters, we stayed in The Italian room, which if you love history is the room to stay in. We could not fault our stay from start to finish, everything surpassed our expectations and the staff were wonderful, especially guest relations manager John Neaju, who looked after our every need. If your looking for a special place to stay and appreciate history, then this is the place to stay! many thanks Mrs Higginson & daughter

We were amazed by this historic place & friendliness of staff. We spent one night and day and didn't want to leave. It is extremely beautiful house, it takes you back to 16th century. Room "Moat II" has a gorgeous view on garden. My husband and I couldn't stop walking around, we enjoyed every minute of our stay in Great Fosters and definitely will come back. Highly recommended! Only 45 min from London and you are back in history.

This hotel is grand, majestic and simply PERFECT!!! I felt as if i had been transported back to the Tudor dynasty whilst ensuring all modern amenities are included too! We stayed in a stable suite and everywhere we looked the room boasted character and taste! Every little detail right down to the Molton Brown toiletries had been thought through! The beds are so unbelievably comfy and the bedding itself is of the highest quality! As there was a wedding going on at the hotel we decided to order room service and what a treat we had! The steak and chips was the best ever and the breakfast was also just as delicious using only the best ingredients! May i also comment on how welcoming and wonderful the reception team were which also makes a huge difference when visiting a hotel! On our next visit we cant wait to stay in the Manor itself in a character room!

If you are looking for a historical getaway with first class food, taste and service then this is most definitely the hotel for you!! I am counting down the days till I can place my next booking at the hotel! 10/10!!

Room Tip: The Stable Suites do have much bigger bathrooms!!!

We spent our first anniversary weekend at Great Fosters and had a marvellous weekend. Even though there were weddings both on the Friday and Saturday we were not impacted by them, although we could hear the music whilst in the bar, it was not intrusive. We had a picnic hamper on the Saturday which was a delight and clearly meant to feed at least another two people besides us! From the cream tea on the terrace when we arrived on Friday to the final breakfast on the Sunday we were treated with consideration and courteousness.

I attended a wedding reception at this hotel last weekend and stayed in one of the rooms in "Cloisters" for the night. Beautiful hotel and gardens and the room was compact but very modern, well kept and generally fantastic. Staff were generally very helpful and accomadating, other than the solo bar man who was incredicbly rude and surly to all the wedding guests.

Thank you for writing a review.

Whilst I was pleased to read that you enjoyed your stay I was disappointed to learn that a member of my bar staff was rude and surly and I hope that you will accept my apologies for this. This is most certainly not 'the norm' at Great Fosters and I will be speaking with him tomorrow to ensure that this is not repeated.

Probably built as a Royal Hunting lodge and very much a stately home since the 16th century, Great Fosters is now a prestigious hotel, awarded 4 red stars by the AA. Set amongst 50 acres of gardens and parkland, the hotel is a Grade One listed building blessed with the grandeur of 16th century England and luxurious modern facilities. Its past is evident in the mullioned windows, tall chimneys, fireplaces and brick finials, while the Saxon moat, crossed by a Japanese bridge, surrounds three sides of the formal garden. All the suites and bedrooms are individually decorated. The bedrooms in the Main House are adorned with tapestries and antiques, whilst the bedrooms in The Cloisters are more contemporary in style. The refurbished Coach House offers luxurious accommodation with the latest plasma screens, i-pod docking stations and fabulous bathrooms. The hotel has two restaurants - The Estate Grill has been awarded two rosettes by the AA and serves a simple and seasonal menu with many of the dishes using produce grown on the estate and cooked on a Josper grill. The Tudor Room was awarded a Michelin star and three rosettes by the AA in October 2016 and is an intimate sophisticated restaurant open for lunch on a Thursday & Friday and for dinner from Wednesday to Saturday inclusive. ... more   less
