Pat’s Bar & Grill is ideally located in the centre of Enniskillen which is Northern Ireland’s Lakeland capital, having to compete with over 30 restaurants in the area it seems to be holding it’s own.
I have walked past this bar many times without venturing in & having read good reports I decided to give it a try for an informal, midweek business lunch.
Upon entering we were greeted by Ronan who promptly took our drinks order and informed us of the choice of two ‘Specials’ available that day. Without even looking at the menu I opted for one of the Specials: Roast Beef wrapped in Bacon, I had never heard of such a combination before and decided to give it a try. Still not having seen the menu I asked for ‘Champ’ as a side dish, Ronan informed me that this was not a listed item but it would be no problem for chef to sort out. A nice touch indeed!
My colleague having learned that the fish (cod) was cut fresh & battered in the kitchen also ordered ‘menu blind’.
We were not disappointed with both meals arriving soon after on warm plates, well presented, good size portions & very tasty with a home cooked feel. No complaints at all to mention with both Ronan & the waitress checking that everything was to our satisfaction.
The cleanliness of the bar / restaurant is of a high standard including the toilets (always a good sign). Fairly priced please find below an idea of cost
Beef Special £9.95 (inc Champ)
Cod & Chips £8.95
Diet Coke £1.80
Other examples include Salmon £9.95, Chicken Goujons £8.50 & various side orders, wedges, mushrooms etc ranging from £1.55 to £3.25
So all well priced to compete in the busy town centre & good value considering the portion size, as you may have guessed the service we received was top class and can’t be faulted, Ronan was more than keen to offer advice on the local area to the extend that we were so busy chatting I forgot to leave a tip! (Apologies Ronan)
There is ‘Pay & Display’ car parking available just a 2 minute walk away just off Wellington Road, this is your best option as the ‘Red Coats’ (Traffic Wardens) patrol the town daily!
In ref to Northern Ireland’s ‘Lakeland’ county of Fermanagh, Enniskillen is the main town with the surrounding area being very popular with boating & cruising enthusiasts and together with the freshwater fishermen they make up most of the tourist visitors to this beautiful county.
In the event you may want to visit during June 2013 please be aware that Enniskillen is the fortunate host to the 2013 G8 Summit. It will be extremely busy and accommodation will be at a premium! One good spin off in ref to the summit is that for the first time ever I noticed that the town centre & surrounding area now have a strong 3G network signal, lets hope they don’t ‘turn it off’ once all the foreign guests & press have left!
For overseas readers, ‘Champ’ is potatoes mashed with a little milk & finely chopped scallions (salad /spring onions) A must try if in the region.
In conclusion Pat’s is well located, professionally managed & should maintain it’s good name.
