We had a group meal here, and were really looked after by the staff. Some excellent meals to suit all budgets, traditional burgers through to fresh sea food. Nice wines and beers available, and great local ciders. Will definitely go back

We went here for lunch after getting the ferry from Mevagissey to Fowey. The menu was inspiring and the welcome was very warm. I had roasted sea bass with a lovely coriander dressing and sprouting bean salad, my wife had red. Mullet in a tempura style batter with a spicy sauce; both were delicious. The kids had mussels and fish and chips which were good sizes, freshly cooked and very tasty.

There's a good wine list and the white which is made just 4 miles from Fowey was excellent. The service throughout was attentive and professional. Ed, the manager (maybe owner?) was great and was central to a popular place, with a great atmosphere and where the food was made with love.

The burgers looked amazing too. Will be back to try one of those bad boys!!!

Visited Sams in Fowey a number of times now when on holiday in the area and always had a lovely meal. Service great and the sea food is amazing. If eating at lunch time arrive early to get a table without waiting.

I always go to Sam's when visiting Fowey. You cannot book and it really is turn up and take pot luck. Myself and our party of 4 went in on a Saturday night (just at the start of Fowey week) around 7.30pm. The restaurant was extremely busy. Spoke to the lovely Ed and he managed to say it would be an hour's wait but we could go upstairs to the Cocktail Bar meantime. We duly ordered our meals and did as he said. It was extremely busy in the Bar upstairs too - this was converted a couple of years ago and now makes it easier for those waiting for a table as the Cocktail Bar serves all types of drinks (not just cocktails!). They also have converted an area for another 6 tables for eating - with a window view looking out over Fore Street. The music booming through the Restaurant was good and everyone seemed in a happy mood.

After some (quite a few!) cocktails later we sat down and our food arrived. The Seafood Feast looked fabulous and for 2 people was really too much! One of my friends had The Beast - a huge burger and I mean huge with all the trimmings! He was delighted with his choice! They serve mains from burgers and steaks to an abundance of fresh local fish off the specials board. Its not fussy food, nor is it expensive. You do get good portions too.

Yes you do have to wait but I think that is part of Sam's success as its different to other restaurants. You come away at the end of an evening thinking genuinely what a great place it is. The staff (Ed's my favourite) are brilliant and I always wonder how the kitchen (its very small) manages to pull it off every night to cope with the hordes of eaters!

Well done guys and wishing you well for the opening of Sam's in Truro.
P.S. Can you open one in St Mawes too?

At busy times I think you could wait forever!
Can't book so just turned up and was told to try again in about 40 minutes, but with no guarantee of a seat then.
Gave up and went across the road to a nice restaurant ( The Globe). We could see others trying, without success, to get a meal, so glad we didn't hang around.
It all seems a bit hit and miss if your hungry!
