“Lovely views!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2013

We visited this inn twice recently while staying in the area. Once we sat inside to eat, and once outside. If at all possible, try to sit outside overlooking the ferry and the river. The food is good, especially the crab, and the waiter was more than happy to let us make substitutes from the usual 'chips with everything'. Although it was quite busy, there was never any attempt to rush us. The food is, however, a bit pricey.

“Harbour delight”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 18, 2013 via mobile

What a location, what a view!
Breathtaking scenery helped along by glorious sunshine.
We stayed in the old part of the hotel with modern fittings complementing the older features of the hotel. Don't be first to bed, due to creepy floorboards! Good food, great friendship.

“Used to be better.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 15, 2013

We come to the Old ferry Inn in Summer to sit outside, enjoy the beautiful views over the river and soak up the early evening sun. the location has obviously not changed, and is still stunning, but something has with the food. we eat outside and have had some lovely pub meals over the last few years. This years first means we will only come here for drinks and the view from now on.
they used to do a great reasonably priced gammon steak and steak and ale pie and other good value pub food. Now the menu has a handful of options plus a huge blackboard of expensive specials.
Our meals were very average fish and chips and scampi, both with huge dollops of tartar sauce on the plates which the chips were sitting in going soggy. There were no peas or veg and a tiny salad. Such a disappointment from previous meals there.
If it has got new owners, then i'm afraid they are going backwards with their food choices and service.

“Disappointing visit - not as it used to be.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 5, 2013

We have visited annually this lovely old Inn and had many wonderful meals overlooking the estuary. We were so disappointed on our visit today after completing our annual Hall Walk.
I had been looking forward to a smoked mackerel ploughmans - my annual treat and my husband his cheddar cheese. There was no mackerel so I ordered the Cod instead and my other half had his ploughmans. There was one piece of cheddar, a piece of Brise and some stilton. The accompanying salad was - well a very small very limp (maybe a tablespoon), - eg HALF a pickled onion, no tomatoes.
However, please note the ale Sharps bitter was EXCELLENT.
So if you are visiting for the ale you won't be disappointed. But if you are old regulars used to the best ploughmans ever don't have too high expectations.
