We booked a nice room onlooking the estuary and were really delighted to be offered an upgrade to the Penthouse suite when we arrived. Stunning room with glorious views. Fantastic service from the staff - nothing too much trouble. Will be coming back again. The walk to/from the car park is not for the faint hearted but there is no choice in Fowey as parking is so limited.

Room Tip: No harm asking for an upgrade out of season

I share all the reviews that say this is hotel is wonderful with good service and lovely rooms. When we arrived we were asked if we would like to pay more for a room with an estuary view rather than the room at the back of the hotel which I had booked. The minute I saw the room I said 'Yes please!' Ok it's a lot of money. Why must English hotels be so expensive? The room was perfect and we instantly felt at home. The bed faced the windows so that you could lie in bed and take in the wonderful shifting light (including a perfect rainbow as it happened) and river activity. There were designer white leather Barcelona chairs to lounge on. Luxury! The quality of the conversion of the building is all done very well with lovely design details. The quality of the bedding is all White Stuff and very, very comfortable. The bathroom had everything you could need. Lovely robes to wear great big bath to lounge in and good quality White stuff shower gel and moisturisers etc to use.

The breakfasts were wonderful with the exception that the kipper is a tasteless, tough, boiled in the bag job! Don't choose the kipper. I had imagined with a wet fish shop over the road that all fish dishes would be very fresh. The evening menu didn't really make use of the splendid range of local fresh fish and the portions are designer! However it is beautifully presented food. On the evening we had dinner in the height of English autumn the only fruit on the menu for pudding was pineapple. How about using fresh local, in season fruit for example- pears, apples, blackberries, plums??
Brilliant attention to detail providing fresh milk in a fridge on the landing for tea in the room. I didn't care that there was no mini bar in the room. Much more civilised to have two glasses of Prosecco delivered to the door with nibbles.
With all this beautiful design around I found two or three jarring notes. Why oh why were there two window boxes on the terrace with plastic pretend box plants in them? They are not even box plant colour! Box plants have no place on a sea view terrace. The other jarring note for me is the picture in the lounge!
If I stay here again I would only want room 6 it is wonderful!

Room Tip: Worth spending more for a room with a view.

We booked for two nights at the Old Quay House - but enjoyed it so much we stayed for three. The staff were very pleasant and helpful, particularly when dealing with parking (you have to drop off your bags and then drive to a car park slightly out of town). The bathroom was big, with a great shower and excellent water pressure. The bed was large and very comfortable. If I had one (very small) gripe it would be that our meal in the restaurant was slightly disappointing - the menu promised more than the actual food delivered. But it certainly wouldn't put me off staying again. Make sure you ask for a room with a view of the estuary, I could have sat there watching the boats all day.

We loved this wonderfully located hotel in the centre of the very pretty town of Fowey.

We fortunately had the beautifully decorated room no 12, with perfect views of the estuary, which was so calm and peaceful.

We were welcomed by the lovely Anthony and the charming staff were very friendly and helpful.
Breakfast was fantastic and served in the charming dining room.

we ate in SAMS which was fun cheap and cheerful and The Bistro nxt to the hotel a little more expensive but lovely food.

We would 100% recommend this small but perfectly formed hotel as the only place to stay in Fowey!

Room Tip: Room 12 is fab! A room with a view!

We stayed in room 12 for one night - larger deluxe double room with full sea-front view. Definitely worth paying the extra for the larger sea-facing rooms.

Pros:

Great seafront location & beautiful views on sunny days.
Large bathroom & shower.
Very nice staff.
Sleek modern design inside, with nice thoughtful extra touches.

Cons:

Unloading & parking a bit traumatic.
No breakfast service until 8:30am - everyone appears at once, so it can be slow.

If you haven't been to Fowey before, signposts are limited on the approach. The hotel is on the sea-front so keep heading downhill towards the sea at every opportunity (even if it looks unlikely) which will bring you round the narrow one-way roads to the hotel. You have to rush in quickly to unpack & get a car park ticket from reception (with any cars on the road stuck behind you) and then drive about 800 yards to the station car-park on the right. All this is a bit traumatic, but worth it. Pack light to avoid this again on departure.

The staff are very nice and make this hotel. Only slight disappointment was the breakfast (would be better if they started serving it earlier to spread out the numbers).

Room Tip: Go for a larger double with sea view if available

I can not praise the staff enough, they were friendly and helpful throughout the duration of our stay.

The Hotel is situated in a fantastic position next to the river, thankfully the sun was out so we were able to enjoy drinks on the terrace overlooking the river.

We paid extra to stay in a superior room which enjoyed a view over the river, this was money well spent as it was relaxing just watching the boats go up and down the river from the comfort of our bed!

We would recommend this hotel and will certainly be returning.

This hotel is not the cheapest, but for a location in central Fowey it cannot be beaten, we had a superior room, which had partial estuary view. I think it is definitely worth paying slightly more for an estuary view. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We stored our bag after check out with them for a few hours. Although we didn't have dinner in the hotel, we did have lunch (the crab sandwhiches were delicious) and breakfast. Breakfast was typically Cornish, because although it was delicious we were told we couldn't place our order as the chef was busy - we were on a relaxed holiday though so didn't mind. the only gripe was one of the glasses in the rooms was dirty.

If we had to come back to Fowey we would definitely stay here again.
