This is our third time at the Ferry Inn. Location-wise you cannot beat it, especially if you have a river-facing room. The views are outstanding up the Fowey Estuary. However, it is NOT in Fowey, it is in Bodinnick, which is the opposite side of the river to the town of Fowey. This means either a short ferry ride from the doorstep (ferry stops running mid-evening), a long drive or the rather random passenger ferry that operates after hours (about 8:30pm in the summer). So, don't come here if you want hustle and bustle and easy night-time access to Fowey. Do come here if you want tranquility and superb food - which leads me to my next point. The pub is very old-English with lots of character, excellent beer (Sharps!) and a really good and varied menu. I recommend going for the 'safe' options on the menu as they are just as good as the specials. The prices are reasonable (for Cornwall) and the hospitality is good. Pascal (the owner) has a lot of character and has really got everything together for such a rustic pub in quite an isolated location.

However, the downside (minor one I must say) is the rooms. They are quite tired now and the TVs really need updating - I cannot remember the last time I saw a 12" screen portable colour TV + the TV tuner is not great with limited channels and quite intermittent reception.

All in all, a brilliant, traditional pub with superb hospitality and in a superb location...

My tip is to get a room with a view of the river, eat early in Fowey or late in the pub and just enjoy this wonderful location!

Room Tip: Go for a room with a view of the river!

We recently had a five night stay at this inn and found it hard to fault. Pascal and his team are very welcoming and even our dogs were made to feel at home. The room was clean and comfortable with a stunning view.Breakfast and dinners served in the dining room were excellent with plenty of choice. The new owners are gradually updating all facilities.
The parking has had some criticism in reviews but we had no problems. If you choose to stay in an unspoiled ruaral area of Cornwall it is a common difficulty which should not spoil your enjoyment. Staff will be happy to advise you and help with your baggage.
We will certainly be returning.

Had two visits to this Inn recently, one with a friend and next with wife. Rooms clean, beds good and plenty of hot water, my wife's main criteria ticked. Being an old building rooms are all over the place; some bedroom views are spectacular as are the views from the balconies and dining room. Bar, housed in a 400 year old room, is olde worlde but not kitch; just evolved that way. Food is excellent. Both main menu and specials are all freshly cooked and superb; could not fault all the breakfasts and evening meals, which were served in dining room. On my second visit some Cornish friends joined us for an evening meal and all agreed the food was wonderful; Chef and host Pascal makes a mean Chicken and Bacon Tagliatelli. In addition Pascal's staff are both efficient and friendly. Well recommended

Having read favourable reviews we chose 'The Old Ferry Inn'. We drove around the hamlet seeking parking for 30 minutes. Friendly greeting, shown to an old fashioned room the type I recall from the 80's. TV I thought was an I Pod (9"), en suite with extraction fan that woke the whole floor, sprung bed with 1 pillow each (the size of a tea bag). Bar was scruffy, downstairs lounge/restaurant nice with one window which was occupied by a pair of guests all evening. Upstairs restaurant, nice views but the room not updated since the 70's. Food was expensive and very poor, fresh fish & chips, skinny overcooked potato less chips, dollop of cold slaw, tartar sauce, mushy peas & salad, battered fish from wholesalers. Breakfast was very good as were all the staff. Next time we'll choose Fowey town.

Room Tip: Go to Fowey

I was supporting our small team attempting the Lands End to John o Groats cycle route. This was night two. Terrible cycling conditions and wicked wild wind and Cornish lashing rain. A quick dash over the estuary and we had found our little oasis. The old and slightly battered appearance gave way to comfortable and slightly quirky room and bathroom arrangements. We had wonderful view. The dining room is modern and the food good. Staff were really nice and very helpful. They offered us an earlier breakfast when we explained the distance we had to travel the next day. Super breakfast and sunshine too!
The rooms are old and the windows ready for renewal but don't discount this lovely old inn. Everything is clean and gradually being updated. Great towels, bath robes and good mattress.

Room Tip: It's worth paying a little extra for the estuary view, I think. You'll see what I mean abou...

We made this our base for a two night trip to this part of Cornwall with friends over from Chicago. The location is 'interesting', it being separated from the main village of Fowey by a ferry ride which only runs until early evening, so we ended up eating at the hotel twice for dinner as well as breakfast, and having to miss out on what looked some good options in Fowey itself.
That said, all our meals were very good (especially breakfast) if not outstanding, with generally efficient service - the reasonably new (French) landlord was certainly a bit of a character. Good real ales, if a little limited. The rooms were also OK, albeit perhaps a bit pricey.

We recently had a lovely three night stay in the Old Ferry Inn. Our room was well equiped, a comfortable bed and a lovely view down the Fowey river, complete with dolphin!
The breakfasts were excellent and any combination was cooked to order - e.g. kippers with poached eggs. The dining room also had views of the river and so did different terraces. We ate in the hotel all three nights which is something we've never done anywhere else but the menu and specials were varied and the food cooked beautifully. The service was friendly and faultless. Right next to the car ferry over to Fowey and with a lovely walk to Polruan this hotel was also near to the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan.
We understood that the hotel was under new management as from June 2012 so just ignore any reviews before then. We would highly recommend this hotel.
