My husband and I have just returned home after an over-night stay at this wonderful hotel over-looking the Harbour in Fowey ! Check in was quick and efficient and the staff extremely helpful ! we were also offered a "complimentary" tea or coffee to have in the lounge during our stay !
Our room was on the 3rd floor and was reached either by stairs or - a fabulous old lift with 2 sets of doors to open with an open view as it went up ! the room itself was absolutely gorgeous ! quite big ! the bed was beautifully "dressed" with the throw-cushions-and curtains all matching making it look very luxurious ! a complimentary tea/coffee tray with biscuits was laid out nicely with bottles of still/sparkling water ! a decent size T.V was also there !! the bathroom was nice too ! lovely toiletries again nicely laid out ! a nice hot shower and the most fabulous soft white-big towels I have ever used ! heaven !!
Only one slight niggle was the car parking ! you could only park on site if you had booked a "premium room" at a charge of £10 per night ! as we hadn't booked a premium room we had to go to the "public car park" approx. 10-15min walk away from the hotel itself ! I wasn't happy leaving it there overnight and when we went to check on it later that night about 9pm the car park was pitch black and our car on it's own ! we didn't want to leave it like that so we drove around and found a place not too far away from the hotel on the road and under a light ! parking here is at a premium and not easy to find and the roads are extremely narrow ! but at least we felt the car was much safer !!
Breakfast the following morning was wonderful ! freshly cooked and brought to your table as was the coffee and toast by very friendly staff !! there was also a buffet where you could get cereals / fruit juice etc. very tasty indeed ! set us up nicely for our journey home !!
We didn't have a meal in the hotel that night ! we walked down to the Harbour and found a lovely pub ! "The Galleon Inn" the food was fabulous and very reasonably priced ! really enjoyed it !
The walk down to the Harbour and up again ! is very steep so take care if your not too mobile although they do have a little bus that runs from the main car park to take you down and up again !
Would we go back to this little gem of a hotel ? absolutely 100% yes ! it was a shame we couldn't stay longer !! so if you go ! enjoy !!

Loved this hotel when we came in June 12 but did mark down to a 4 as shabby, service poor & bedding old. This time all of these things have been addresses. Service very good, attentive, nothing too much trouble. Room 202 corner aspect with 3 windows with the very best view fab, retaining authentic but with fresh linen etc... Dining was lovely. A proper restaurant, making you feel special for breakfast & dinner. Missed the settee in the bar but the refurb has managed to retain the quirky & traditional, tho don't like too much the tables & chairs ??? Bit modern. Still love the lift, who wouldn't ? All in all with the view, the gardens, the estuary, the boating activity, opposite Polruan, the lovely little town, ferries, walks, what more could you wish for in a three night break in Cornwall. Thank you we had a fab time. It's definitely up there for us as we don't go back & this was second visit & probably go again. A great traditional hotel retaining its history with great balance with today. Good value for money. A quality experience.

Room Tip: Room 202 go on spoil yourselves

I know the area. Fowey is beautiful, and I expect a hotel in such a wonderful position to make the most of it.
What I did like was the uncompromising attempt to provide good service by the skeleton staff.
I cannot fault them, but sadly, there were issues regarding stocking, and staff levels. I know this is out of season, but you should endeavour to provide the same level of service at all times.
I waited at the bar for thirty minutes whist the single barman went up and down to the cellar in order to find the right bottle of wine for another guest. Exemplary service on one hand, but appalling service on the other.
My experience in the dining room was the same. Superb food, appalling service, but only because there seemed to be only one waitress, and she was working her socks off.

Room Tip: Without a sea view this is a pretty expensive hotel for the area.

We are local so we only used the resto and bar facilities. On the occasions we have visited Fowey Hotel the staff has been welcoming and helpful. I find the hotel very peaceful, everything seems to be done in a calm manner so it is easy to relax. We've eaten both in the bar and the resto and more than happy with what is on offer. The views are of course delightful and I will visit again soon. Thank you

We spent 2 nights in this charming old hotel. The views are spectacular across the estuary. The staff are friendly, polite & professional. It was a lovely break and it felt like a return to a more gentle bygone era. It was also very good value for money. We had no complaints and will return to this hotel & others in their group . The parking is available in a car park nearby as this old Cornish village has limited parking . Visitors must accept this and enjoy the walk to and from the car park for exercise & the views over the village & harbour ( You can always send the other half to get the car !).The food was amazing . We highly recommend the whole experience.

Room Tip: You can upgrade to a sea view or superior room at extra cost.

Living in Torquay & visiting its sister hotel the Grand regularly we decided to try this hotel for a night, First impressions were not good and were not reflected by the air brushed pictures on the web site with tired reception and public areas, the parking arrangements are a shambles and the bar area is completely uninviting with mismatched furniture and dirty windows spoiling the magnificent views , some kind of music would have helped but the bar was empty at 9.30 on a Saturday night. If we hadn't paid £224 for dinner bed & breakfast with supplements on some of the choices on the set menu we could have accepted some of these faults. On a positive note the food was good and the superior room was excellent although the sash windows let in a draft. So overall it was disappointing and not the experience we were expecting.

Dear Gary and Wendy

Thank you for your review, I am so sorry to learn that your stay was below expectation.

I am particularly perturbed that your impression prior to arrival appears not to resemble the reality you experienced at the hotel. We do work hard to convey a true representation of our hotels, and would certainly never 'air brush' or photoshop any of our imagery.

As can be seen in our other reviews it is generally far more typical for our guests to have their expectations exceeded. After all the true splendor of the locations of all our hotels can never be truly represented other than in person.

With regards to your other comments, I have personally investigated each area and whilst I could reply publicly, it would be most helpful if you would care to email me personally in order that I can best discuss your comments with you. Perhaps, also it may help us to enhance the experience we offer to all our guests in the future, as well as to try and entice you back to give us another chance at delivering (and exceeding) your expectations.

Once again my apologies and I look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards

We have just returned from a weekend break and have to congratulate the staff on their warm and professional manner. Lovely room overlooking the sea with everything we needed. Restaurant excellent. Very busy in the mornings so opted for breakfast in bed the next day which was on time and beautifully cooked. We would recommend to anyone and hope to return again.
