We stayed a few nights at Easter, and were extremely impressed. The staff, facilities, food, rooms and views were excellent, and we experienced a good deal of consideration and helpfulness. Welcoming staff, comfortable bed, good bathrooms. It was fairly quiet there, not a huge hotel which was great for us. You need to book parking as it is limited - otherwise you will need to park a way away, possibly up the hill in the public car park. The only quibble was the remote for the TV in our room which they couldn't get to work properly - hopefully that's been resolved. Had no impact on our stay however. And you can sit and stare at the views forever. The antique lift is fabulous!

This is our second visit in 6 months to this hotel, which is fast becoming our favorite along side its sister hotel The Grand in Torquay. The room was amazing as were the stunning views, the food faultless and the staff the best there is, nothing is too much trouble, the atmosphere is so relaxed you dont want to leave. The Richardson group as a whole know exactly what the customer wants and delivers every time, but The Fowey seems to go that little bit further. Well done to everyone there.

Room Tip: any of the superior doubles, the views will blow you away!

The location of the Fowey Hotel is excellent with lovely views and close to local shops and bars. The hotel car park was full on arrival so had to park a 10 minute walk away so book the car park in advance if you do not want the inconvenience. The Hotel had friendly staff and a wonderful lift with open shutters which is a real novelty. We were based in room 310 on the top floor which disappointed us as it is a really dated and tired old room. There was no duvet available and had to make do with old sheets and still I couldn't get warm. The room had a fusty old smell and obviously the guest previously had been smoking in there even though we were assured the hotel was non smoking. The certificate in the room information folder saying the mattress was last cleaned in 2011 sums up the room. The bedside lamps and radiators were extremely dusty.
The breakfast was really good and whisky in the porridge was a nice touch with views out to sea. The evening meal was excellent. All in all the hotel is ok, but needs a general makeover and overhaul, new furniture, carpets, bathrooms, decor and duvets would make this a much better hotel and only then it would deserve the 4 stars advertised which currently it stands a 3 star max!

Room Tip: Maybe request a sea view room as these rooms looked much nicer on walking past when housekeeping wer...

A beautiful location overlooking the estuary made this a quiet and restful stay apart from two problems
Firstly food is subjective and the hotel offer fine dining without doubt but however pretty it looked it was a triumph of style over taste which was lacking. A fried breakfast cannot be a work of art. It defies logic. My sausage was bea utifully placed but lonely.
Secondly and objectively My room needed new windows desperately. The sash windows were rotten and had no seal so there was a constant howling draught.
No planning permission granted after 3 years. Yeah right.

We have stayed at this lovely hotel several times- the location is fabulous ,the staff attentive and polite, the breakfasts lovely. My only gripe really is about the evening menu-we went the last two times, on the classic break with dinner included but found on our last visit that the majority of items on the menu incurred a supplementary charge. I really don't understand why orange sponge with creme anglaise incurred a charge ,when on our previous visit ,a month earlier, the same dessert DIDN'T !!I I did leave a comment about this on the card left in our room but have not had an explanation offered.Sadly, newspapers are not provided in the drawing room anymore and when my husband asked for a few nuts to go with our drinks, the barman made a comment about having to watch his profit margins.I am convinced that we used to have 2 rashers of bacon at breakfast ,not one .I realise times are hard, and they need to make money but would rather they added a few pounds on the price at the start. At least then ,you can go away knowing exactly what you will be spending !!

Room Tip: We always have rooms on lower ground floor which have French windows out onto small terrace -fabulou...

Make sure you get a sea view bedroom, use one of this hotel's three cosy lounges or whilst dining in the amazingly ornate dining room (if you can tear yourself away from the delicious food) spend time looking out through the vast windows across the river estuary towards the sea; watch fishermen sorting their lobster pots, gigs being rowed, bulk carriers heading upriver to China Clays or just the twinkly lights across the bay.

This place is a tranquil haven, with almost old-fashioned good service from a knowledgeable, well trained and friendly staff (many younger people who are interested in your day/how the weather's going to develop etc). A wonderful place to stay if you want to be looked after, well fed and peaceful.

We enjoyed a most pleasant night here following a visit to the Eden Project. The hotel enjoys a splendid position overlooking the town and river. We were given an upgrade to room 202 which had wonderful views. The staff were friendly and helpful, the food enjoyable and the ambience just right. The antique lift is well worth the cost of the visit,an engineering marvel. Fowey is nicely situated for enjoying some beautiful coastline, with pretty harbours and fine scenery. This hotel makes for a good base for exploring the area. Book your car parking space in advance as parking is not easy in the narrow streets of ancient Cornwall.

Room Tip: You must make sure you book a room with a view.
