“Character hotel with beautiful views”

Go back to a bygone era when everybody calls you sir or madam and nothing is too much trouble, that's the Fowey hotel. Lovely attentive staff and all very polite. We had rooms overlooking the estuary in the lower ground floor (no lift access) which were comfortable but a little too warm for our liking and unfortunately there are no windows to leave open for ventilation. The only alternative being two large old patio doors which we couldn't leave open overnight. Also there must be some sort of water supply problem as the pipes rattle furiously at times when switched on by our and neighbouring rooms. Food was really nice and service very good. Only moan we would say is that someone must be counting the amount of food supplied as everyday we ordered the full English breakfast there were exactly 5 small mushrooms each portion, not one more, not one less. One of our party decided on no sausage and asked for an extra bacon rasher but again there must be an unwritten rule... two rashers of bacon and no substitutions. Another in our party opted for mushrooms, egg and tomato which looked a bit lost and sad on the plate.... still just the 5 mushrooms were presented... just seemed a bit mean surely a few more mushrooms as they were missing out on so much more. Top and bottom of it all pretty minor moans and a lovely stay and would definitely return and recommend.

Room Tip: Get a room overlooking the estuary. Might be better on a higher floor than the basement as there was...

a lovely place to relax, staff friendly, food wonderful, would definately would go back and often do,nothing is too much trouble. The car parking space is a little cramped and is quite a way from municipal carpark.but is worth the trouble as the hotel has a lovely situation

Room Tip: last minute booking can sometimes get a better deal.

A charming hotel with wonderful views. The rooms are clean and well presented, The staff are always at hand and very approachable. The food in the Spinnaker restaurant was excellent and very relaxing. The choices at breakfast were great, cold buffet plus also a great choice of cooked breakfast, this was also served reasonably quickly. It is in a great location, just a short walk down to the quay side and the coastal path. We would go back.

Room Tip: The extra money for a river view is defintley worth it.

The Fowey Hotel is a member of a small group, which obviously work on the 'family run' mentality, and it works. Excellent service from all members of staff, very good food, including the Bar Menu. Clean and well presented bed and public rooms. Dinner is a chance to relax and enjoy the evening, no rush and plenty of good wines available. Have been twice in the past two years and would recommend anyone to try this 'traditional' relaxing hotel.

Room Tip: Go for the sea views, they are worth the extra for the obviouse views

Unfortunately could only stayed one night due to time constraints, but everything about this venerable old hotel was excellent.
Food superb, service in restaurant and reception first class.Room overlooking the river beautiful.
And is even dog friendly!
Loved the old lift- took me back to "the old days" .
Hope to stay again next year but for longer.

We had a great time once again despite the wet weather.
The food was excellent as usual and has never disappointed us.
Our room was spotless thanks to Tanya.
The staff are all extremely welcoming and very helpful which makes for a really nice stay. Thanks to all the staff, especially Tristan (Restaurant manager) and Emily (Reception), for another lovely stay.

I'll Start by saying that I have stayed here several times when in the area on business and visit the hotel for snacks / tea on a regular basis.

This time I visited with family for a bar meal and a cream tea for myself on a cold and windy November day. The others had Hot Buttered Toasted Tea Cake and Ham & Tomato Sandwich, I went for my usual treat of a Cornish Cream Tea. I can not fault the food, hot drinks or the service as all were excellent.

We were the only guests in the bar and one of the other tables was taken up by a staff member working on her laptop, normaly not a problem but we soon became aware she was completing some work for part of a qualification and found it quite annoying to hear her talk to other staff members about the various policies and procedures of the Richardson hotel group.
It soon got even more annoying when a gent came in and settled down with his paperwork only for other staff to come in and talk to him about their paperwork / course work regarding Richardson Hotel.

This may be a one off but in our opinion staff should not be talking about the company policies and procedures in a public area of the hotel even if they were very quiet.

We will visit again as we normaly find this a very relaxing hotel to have a light snack and enjoy the views even better in the summer from the lovely gardens.

I do hope that the management read this and agree that public areas are exactly that and not for the hotels guests to find out about grievance, employment and other policies.
