We love staying at the Safeharbour and will return again! The breakfasts are excellent, provided parking worth the price of the room and a location that is slightly removed but close to the town is perfect. My only slight issue is that room and bathroom in particular could be cleaner, as they are they are a little rough around the edges and although not by any means dirty they could be more thoroughly cleaned, particularly on arrival.

We have stayed in Fowey on many occasions, always in self-catering accommodation, but this time we decided to treat ourselves to a couple of nights in a B & B. We chose the Safe Harbour since it has that rarest of Fowey commodities - a car park! The booking process was easy and efficient, and we were promised a "gorgeous double room on the second floor with lovely views".

On arrival we were shown to our room by a friendly and helpful lady and yes, the views over Place and the river are stunning. While the bedroom decor is OK unfortunately the carpet appeared quite shabby, and while the bedlinen was clean and crisp the bed was a little saggy in the middle. Toiletries and fluffy towels were provided, but sadly the tea and coffee-making tray was let down by a grubby kettle. And now to the bathroom...... mis-matched elderly sanitaryware, broken door handle, noisy extractor fan, nowhere to put anything - such a disappointment in this day and age.

We ate here on the first night of our stay, but once we placed our order the relentless pinging of the microwave could be heard from the kitchen (we were the only diners) and sadly the meal confirmed our worst fears......

Breakfast however was freshly cooked and good on both mornings, although we were slightly unsettled to find grubby cutlery and glassware, and we personally have a dislike of dogs in the breakfast room.

Summing up, the Safe Harbour could be wonderful but needs an awful lot of investment and most importantly it also needs a lot more attention to detail. Little things could be done at realtively small cost to make the guest experience so much better. The rather shambolic but cheerful and friendly owner is probably its saving grace, but at £120 per night for our stay we both felt that the Safe Harbour is cashing in on Fowey prices.

Fowey too has lost some of its gloss since out last visit, so perhaps there is a general malaise due to the current economic climate. Things can only get better.......

A traditional pub/hotel where the staff that serve you include the owners who genuinely care about their guests.

The rooms were large and confortable with plentiful hot water and, at least in our case, a bathroom so large that it even boasted and armchair and was still not cramped !

The small restaurant has a good reputation amongst the locals, as we learnt in casual conversation with some shopkeepers, and it is a reputation well deserved. Specials were "available" or "not available" depending on what was actually caught and brought ashore that morning and it really doesn't come fresher than that.

A Hotel we have already recommended to friends and certainly one we would return to when we go back to Fowey.

The room and bathroom were good - spacious and good quality furnishing and facilities, and clean and nicely prepared. There was also a settee as well as a good sized double bed. However, the breakfast was poor - a "packet" breakfast - small packets of a limited number of cereals, small tubs of jam, spread, etc, small pats of butter, sliced brown or white bread to toast yourself, and coffee stewing on a hob. There was a small choice of cooked breakfasts, although fairly standard. Staff were a bit too matey at breakfast the one staff member on duty was not good at explaining what was required. A simple short session of training would improve this significantly.

Room Tip: Room 5 faces the rear and is quiet.

My wife found this through TA and I have to be honest you couldn't ask for more. The accommodation is clean, fresh and modern. The food served in the bar is good traditional fare, with the a couple of specials, we had fresh scallops caught that day, actually 7 for £5.95 and they were stunning. A great selection for breakfast and all the staff were mega friendly, Will definitely go back and ideally located just 3 minutes from town.

Me and my boyfriend stayed at the Safe Harbour for a few days while visiting family, everything was perfect, we had a really great time.

Carol and Graham were so helpful and friendly, they truly went out of their way to help us, making us feel comfortable, being warm and welcoming and giving us good information on the best way way to get to St Ives and what to do there and where to eat at night in Fowey.

The room was modern and clean with a view of the church and the sea and the food was spot on. I was really pleased with the vegetarian options and the breakfast was by far the best one I have ever had.. so much so I had a full veggie breakfast 3 days in a row.

The stay was worth every penny, we are both looking forward to going back to the Safe Harbour one day, even if it is just for lunch.

This is the second time I have stayed here. It is an ideal location for the du Maurier Festival as the main Marquee site is within walking distance. The town is also accessible on foot, however Fowey is hilly so be prepared. All that walking does help the appetite and Safe Harbour does have a great dinner menu and a traditional breakfast which sets you up for the day. There is an excellent use of local produce, particularly fresh fish and meat. The rooms are well decorated, very clean and comfortable. As all the rooms are only accessible via a steep narrow stairs this is not recommended for those with mobility problems. They have a small car park which is a godsend in a town like Fowey (narrow streets and limited parking). The welcome and service are friendly and on the whole this is excellent value for money.

Room Tip: I have only slept in rooms at the back overlooking the car park. They are peaceful and there is a s...
