I am always attracted to the advertising campaign for this centre and once really looked forward in anticipation for what it had to offer. Year after year I get there and spend lots of time confused and really lost in the place. There is plenty of assistants around but they all look aliens! The shop is full of simply toys. A walk around most of the exhibits is puzzling. I thought Art was meant to be a form of communication . . . this place does not. It seems to me a very big waste of space and taxpayers money. Why can't the board or advisers help or why not use the place as part of the University Arts Departments. Students will bring the place alive. Similar to Leeds Music College who use the Leeds Town Hall and the BBC building for visiting student musicians from local music Colleges and from places such as the Northern Colleges of Music etc? Come on Gateshead supply a questionnaire to visitors and get their honest opinions. I want a 1st class venue in the North to see ALL types of art. I mean that Turner Prize Event was SHOCKING!

This is an example of an interesting building conversion into space for art. The modern art exhibitions are thought provoking, and the staff are exceptionally friendly and well informed. The exploration pack that you can borrow for kids works well .The cafe on the ground floor makes a welcome stop!

Well worth a visit - especially to the viewing box & balcony.

Unfortunately a couple of floors were closed as they were setting up new exhibits - obviously it needs to be done just a shame it couldnt be staggered.

Staff are very helpful & friendly :)

The Baltic Flour Mills is actually an art centre. Interesting art displays and a lovely shop at the ground floor.
