“good value in an old hotel”
Reviewed October 1, 2013

Stayed at the cumbria grand for a long weekend and really enjoyedmy time there. We had a room overlooking the golf course and estuary and were very pleased to have a good sized and clean bathroom. The staff were efficient and friendly, the food was ok and the stay was value for money.OK the hotel is old,the lifts slow, facilities limited, but that didn't stop us enjoying our stay.

Room Tip: ask for a room overlooking the estuary

We booked the 3 day promotion deal for 3 nights Friday to Monday which included a free cruise on the lakes. The room ...221 which had a sea view(was included FOC) and was very nice. The promotion included a half board carvery meal which in quality, quantity and choice could not be faulted.
We have been many times in the past....its good to see the same high standards are maintained by all the staff.

Room Tip: Sea facing rooms are available some have a balcony.

Great to see you enjoyed the Lakes Mini Cruise.Due to such a positive response from all guests who enjoyed the complimentary boat trip on the lake we will again be featuring this in our 2014 promotional brochure for all guests booking our great value three or four night breaks.
During the winter season we are offering complimentary tickets to the Lakeland Motor Museum as an alternative while the cruises are closed for the season.Look forward to welcoming you back.

A Grand Hotel which has seen better days like them all.
The staff are very friendly and you are made to feel at home.
The rooms are adequate but in need of updating, like flat screen TV's with more than the usual terrestial channels.
We had two rooms very similar in size but one bathroom was small. They could also do with grab rails fitting for the elderly which stop at the Cumbria Grand as it caters for coach parties. in the Saturday we stopped.
Not the place for a romantic weekend.
The rate included evening meal which was a carvery, acceptable but overcharged on advertised price not worth £22 and only given £10 towards going a la carte. Saying this the food was good but not fine dining.
Breakfast was buffet self serve and again was good quality and up to standard you get in other hotels.
Bar, wine prices also quite reasonable.
Overall we had a good stay and it suitied what we needed for a one night stop over.

My wife and I stayed here for two nights for a Ballroom dance weekend. The hotel is close to the railway station in Grange-over-sands and is easily within walking distance, it also has a large car park. Our room was spacious, clean and had a good sized en-suite bathroom. We had breakfast and evening meals at the hotel and these were both very good, with a large selection on the menus. The room was quiet and had a view of the wooded hill behind the hotel. i can't comment on value for money as i suspect our dance package wasn't representative of usual prices. The Ballroom, restaurant and lounges are very pleasant and the staff we encountered were both efficient and helpful.

Room Tip: The rear of the hotel has the sea views.

I really like it here, loads of parking, as you'd expect, a grand reception area, friendly staff. Nice rooms with en suite, marvellous shower with loads of power, tea coffee and kettle, heating was on as it was a little chilly, no complaints here, it is a big old building so don't expect everything to look like new and modern. The breakfast room is really nice with views looking out over the water, I was here with work on my own but would recommend to couples and family's alike.

Room Tip: I was in 139. A large twin room, very happy with it

Thank you for your comments.Last year our car park was totally overhauled and all our guests comment on how good it is to always get parked easily with free parking and marked bays.I do hope you bring your family for a leisure break in the near future.

Part of of dance party of 98 this weekend.13/15/2013. Got a lovely room with a balcony and superb view. Food and service was not too bad. Bar food and drinks a tad expensive. Plenty of space for everyone with lots of comfortable chairs. Downside the ballroom which was downstairs needs some TLC on the corridor steps and ballroom. The smell was awful damp and mold permeated. Needs proper lighting.

Room Tip: Ask for one on the 3rd floor facing the sea slightly larger and very quite.

Your review and comments are much appreciated. The main ballroom was recently decorated and the danceflooor restored to its former glory. The next stage of refurbishment will indeed be the corridor and entrance to this and we hope to start this project in the new year. The demand for dance holidays and conferences and functions is as strong as ever and these areas will receive a full make over.
