“Needs modernising”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2013

Stayed for a couple of nights - our room faced a wall and was extremely dark. The lighting in the room was poor and it was difficult to see to read etc. the room although clean definitely needs to modernised. There was a canopy complete with crown over the bed and lots of heavy curtains and swags. Rather disconcertingly a clicking noise like a camera shutter was evident several times and our friends also commented on this in their rooms. We could hear the kitchen air conditioning unit and if we opened our window the smell of food cooking was unpleasant.
The food was very good - we ate in the restaurant on one evening of our say and thought it was excellent value for money. Wines are also reasonably priced. Breakfast was super and the staff very efficient. The 'remote control' piano in the bar area needs turning down or preferably off altogether - was difficult to hold a conversation because of the din.
All staff were friendly and very obliging although we weren't given an explanation as to why the fire alarm went off at 2 o clock in the morning.
If the rooms in this hotel were modernised it would be a big improvement - get rid of all these ancient beds and curtains - lighten the decor!

Room Tip: Avoid rooms at the back of the hotel.

I stayed at this hotel as part of a wedding party.
Check In & Out was quick and efficient.
The place is very, very clean, not an easy task for such a large and old hotel with nooks and crannies everywhere. The decor is 1st class and in an excellent state of affairs, I had room 120, with a side facing view. The room was well furnished and has a reasonable size bath, but no shower unit. The staff throughout were excellent, many of them were foreign, but had a good command of the English language and nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was excellent and the kitchen brigade should be complemented on their high standards and attention to detail. Their organisation of the wedding was outstanding and again there was great emphasis on attention to detail. A lovely location at the southern end of the Lakes and well worth a visit.

Room Tip: 120 was classed as a single room, but had a good sized double bed complete with canopy.

Staffed by willing and enthusiastic people and standing proudly above the village, first impressions are good. It is when you actually go into your room that you wonder whether the designer had ever stayed in a hotel. Our room was a suite and the rooms were large. The reason we took a suite was that none of the other four rooms we inspected had a desk at which to read or use the laptop. They had flamboyant gilded marble topped sideboards which were too tall to be able to sit at. The bathroom had nowhere for wet packs or vanity cases or mirrors under lights for make up to be applied. The boisterous modern shower was hot, but had nowhere to stand soap, shampoo and those other things people may wish to use. The hotel is full of such sideboards which may look good in photographs but which are absolutely useless for anything but standing things on that you need to stand to use. The restaurant was good but not special with an extremely limited wine list. With an experienced hotel designer, it could be fantastic, but it just isn't.

Room Tip: Inspect closely before you accept it.

Right from the moment we arrived at this hotel, we felt looked after. We were a little worried as when we booked we were told that 2 weddings were going on over the weekend we were staying, so we were a little bit concerned about the noise etc. This was absolutely no problem though as weddings take part in a separate side of the hotel. We were welcomed on arrival by a happy smiling lady who chatted to us as if we had known her years. Our room was all ready for us, and we had been upgraded, to a front facing room, which was absolutely lovely, with beautiful décor and gorgeous views. The room also had an additional dressing room, and a nice bathroom, with a slipper type free standing bath. The whole hotel is immaculately clean and well cared for, but there is a warmth about the place and an atmosphere which was just so easy, unpretentious, and friendly. All of the staff without exception were friendly and helpful, and all smiling which does make such a difference. We ate in the in the lounge area the first night as we were not very hungry, but my goodness the portions were huge well cooked, and reasonably priced. We ate in the restaurant the second night which was really lovely, the food was excellent, and well served by again, cheerful happy staff.
I would definitely recommend this hotel and would have no hesitation in staying here again.

My husband and I recently got married at this hotel and I can honestly say it was the best day of my life. Aside from the fact it was my wedding and therefore I'm biased, the organisation, friendliness and flexibility of all the staff was amazing.

Right from the very first meeting and throughout the planning Angela and her team were fantastic.

Myself and bridesmaids stayed in Suites 230 and 232 the night before, complete with dressing area for hair and make up and getting ready. Which was fantastic.

I used the pool and spa facilities each day including the wedding morning and had a fantastic facial and full body massage.

Every member of our wedding party commented on how fabulous the venue was and how nice the food and rooms were.

The honeymoon suite 241 overlooked the bay and was complete with chilled champagne.

I cannot rate this venue highly enough. If you're thinking of holding a wedding here or simply having a break away. Do not hesitate!

I cannot wait to revisit!!

The new Mrs Jones!

My wife and I got married here in July 2013. Before, during and after the wedding the hotel could do nothing more for you. The food was good, the rooms excellent and the venue amazing. Brian and Angela were excellent in making sure the wedding ran smoothly. The costing of the wedding was also very reasonable. All in all a perfect day made possible by the staff at the Grange Hotel.

Spent 3 nights here recently last week. Had a nice room on the top floor with a separate seating/lounge area. Nice roll top bath and large shower with good pressure. Only downside with this room (217) was that it was near the lift which needs some TLC as the door makes quite a racket when opening and closing. This was mentioned to reception at checkout so hopefully it gets looked at soon.

Had dinner at the restaurant the 1st night which we quite enjoyed. Food allergies were catered for quite OK although that did restrict the menu options quite a bit.

Breakfast was OK, buffet type. Not the best ever but you could not really fault it.

Did not have time to enjoy the leisure facilities. Parking was easy and hotel was nicely situated for a short walk into town.

Not the cheapest accommodation around but was nice for a romantic few days away.

Room Tip: Room 217 has a nice separate lounge/seating area and a side sea view slightly blocked by the trees...
