The house feels like a museum to the past. The chapel was in darkness and so were a few rooms and minor corridors. A few more items could have been on display because some of the rooms looked sparse. I was given a thick leaflet on the description of the house in the entrance hall. I was insulted because it was more suited to children. It was in large print and the descriptions were plain and lacked sufficient detail.

The basement tour was wonderful, such a lot of great information from our guide. We were there on a day that the main house was closed but maybe another time. The gardens were also lovely

Belton House is a Lincolnshire gem. The garden is just gorgeous, the roses are wonderful. There was lots of gardeners around, one lady who we spoke to comes every year for a week to help in the garden. There is so much to see. The House is also well worth visiting. The guided tour of the basement was good, it takes around 40 minutes. All the guides in the the rooms were friendly and informative. A fabulous day out.

Where to go for a birthday picnic? We thought Belton House as we don't live far away and hadn't visited for a few years. As we were walking through the car park with our dog a lady approached us saying that she was leaving as her dog wasn't allowed anywhere. When we showed our NT card we asked the staff member who confirmed that dogs are only allowed in the deer park (dull, open grassland) We appreciate that he would not be allowed into the house, formal gardens and play area, but were looking forward to a walk and picnic along the woodland walk towards the boat house - not to be. I wasn't surprised to find that he WAS allowed in the courtyard, where all the shops are. Happy to take our money but not to let our 4 legged friend in the woods.

Not he best run National Trust attraction. Although we were given a pamphlet to take with us therewas very little real info included. & no sheets for us to read in the various rooms. as in most we have visited. One room had a `list of paintings ` available in the room. Yes, it had but the guide kept it tightly clutched to her chest while talking to a visitor & no-one could read it. Several stood by waiting to speak to her but in the end we all moved on.The paintings were in a very dark room as is accepted for conservation but it would have helped to know what e were trying to look at!

Many interesting pieces we would love to have more info on were not mentioned in any form . The organisers badly need to address the situation as it is a wonderfully interesting property which has much room for improvement as regards information for visitors.

We, like many others visiting were very disappointed that we were unable to visit the servants quarters as it was guided tours only!!! We always find these extremely interesting in these old properties & have never come across this before.. No explanation was given.

Thank Chris H
