lovely hotel set within sight of the majestic cairngorms on the river spey famous for its whisky distilleries. very quiet this time of the year but we got a marvellous deal on the price .The resteraunt is very good even the toast is crisp and hot . The meals are hot and quickly served . They have just put the christmas tree up so i think it will get busier as we near the festive season

The only positive thing I can say about this hotel is what a fantastic location it is in. Fortunately I only spent one night here. On arrival there was not one member of staff to be found - anywhere. After about a 20minute wait somebody working for front of house did appear. A bell would be useful at reception as staff seem to have to multi task. Checking in I was given to information until I asked about check in, times for breakfast or any info concerning the hotel. First impression of the room were good, until closer observation. The table and bedside cabinets were thick with dust. As was the telephone which incidentally didn't work. The carpet obviously had not been hoovered that day and there was no bin in the bathroom. I went back down to reception to request an iron and ironing board and was told it would be brought up within 15 minutes. An hour later I had to go back to reception(due to in room phone not working) to make request again. The front of house are obviously doing their best but lack of staff is very obvious. Luckily I did not dine in the restaurant in the evening if the breakfast was anything to go by. For £10 I received 1 poached egg(not cooked), 1 rasher of bacon, half a raw tomato and a very dubious sausage. Breakfast was sent back as unedible. I voiced my concerns at check out and going by the attitude of the staff these are complaints that are made often. The hotel caters mainly towards coach parties and seemingly is not interested in repeat business from any other customers.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on our hotel. I am sorry you found your stay with us an unhappy one.

I can only assume that your check-in time was at a late hour as our desk is manned between 8am and 9pm daily, after which all incoming guests are directed to the bar area, a notice on the desk does imply this. All our front office staff are trained as standard to book guests in for breakfast and direct them to restaurant and bar areas at time of check-in.

We generally do not receive comments regarding the cleanliness of our rooms as we do operate to a high standard with in our housekeeping department, therefore I can only apologise at this seemingly one off error.

With regards to our breakfast items, service and charge, Our Breakfast menu has recently been changed and is to company standard with some great dishes for our guest to sample, we offer a large selection on our cold buffet such as fresh fruits, cereals, yogurt and pastries to traditional items such as porridge (our head chef was placed in the top 5 finalist of the world porridge making championships in 2008), kippers ect. The breakfast menu offers many options for you to choose from at your leisure, and we encourage guests to make their own choices. I am unsure as to the charge of £10.00 as the menu clearly states £14.95, but £10.00 is a competitive price for breakfast in a 3 star hotel.

Once again we thank you for your comments as guest feed back is a vital tool in our continued service and training.

Kindest regards
Chrissie

My partner and I decided to go away for the weekend and we opted for Grantown on Spey. As a frequent customer in the Crerar Eight Acres Hotel in Elgin, we decided to stay at the Crerar Hotel in Grantown (The Craiglynne). My partner and I were delighted with the first impression of the hotel on arrival. Although there was no-one at reception when we arrived and had to wait about 10 minutes before we could check in (could I suggest a bell for the desk?), the staff were very friendly and informative. We were unaware when we booked that there was a Rod Stewart Tribute night on that night and Gemma (staff) enthusiastically invited us to come along.
We took a walk into town which only took a couple of minutes as the location of the hotel in so conveniently close.
We dined in the hotel and the food was lovely!!! and the service was fast and efficient. We met alot of couples who were very friendly and we had a fantastic evening of entertainment, Thank you to everyone. We are now planning to visit the Crerar Hotels in Oban and Mull in November so if it is anything like this weekend then I'm looking forward to it already.

My partner and 2 friends stayed in this hotel on a last minute decision........and oh what a cracker, we got a great rate, great rooms, great food and the staff were fantastic. During our way too short stay we met some wonderful and very helpful people. Nothing seemed too much trouble.....and that is why i was so baffled when i looked the hotel up on tripadvisor, yes the hotel has its wee faults but there again what hotel hasn't, creaky floor boards!!!!!! get a grip, nothing that trivial should ever spoil anyones break or holiday.

Thanks so much staff and managment of the craiglynne, we will be back, and just to be sure, can i please have room 103 again the view onto the gardens and park is beautiful first thing on a morning (and all day), I dont mind paying extra.....THANKS

This was a fantastic hotel. From arrival to departure the staff could not have been more helpful or polite and friendly. The service in the restaurant was exceptional and the food was excellent. The room we were given was large, clean and very comfortable. The en-suite also had a high standard of cleanliness. The location is ideal for touring the Highlands and the hotel is opposite a beautiful park and woodland walks down to the River Spey. We will definitely be back.

We stayed at the Craiglynne last week for 4 days and enjoyed it thoroughly. Although we agree with some of the comments of Daisy18 we think she has been somewhat hard on the hotel.
Yes our room had 1 or 2 faults and the floor boards did creak some but it was warm and comfortable and overall we thought it was very good value for money . All the staff we met throughout the hotel we found cheery and most helpful - In fact we got to know many of them by name.
The meals both breakfast and evening we found to be most enjoyable with a very good choice of their Table de hote menu with more choices on their A la Carte if you so wished. They also had a wide choice of wines which I am glad to say we tasted two of them both reds. One was a french Merlot and the other was a South African Cabernet, the Cabernet we had twice.
The nearby town of Grantown-on-Spey is well worth visiting and we found the local shopkeepers to be very friendly.
For those who wish to visit the highlands of Scotland this is an excellent spot. There are many attractions to see, the Cairngorms, the Strathspey Steam Railway, Horse riding, Salmon fishing in the River Spey, the Ski Slopes, many old castles and gardens, wildlife including red squirrels, ospreys, eagles, deer etc., Not forgetting you are in the heart of Scotland's wonderful Whisky country you can visit the many Distilleries which are only a short distance away.
This was our 4th stay at this hotel and we are pleased to say that there have been some good improvements made to it and we hope the upgrades will continue as it certainly has character.
