This was our fourth visit to this wonderful hotel - our first with close friends, and also our first time in the winter months. If you are undecided whether to visit during the winter - then dither no more! We decided to take a walk in the local Anagach Woods on arrival and within the first hour we had seen a crested tit, treecreeper and red squirrels.
The next day we enjoyed a local walk with John, a local guide and part of the BWWC team. We had not explored that part of the area before and we saw dipper, great spotted woodpecker & more squirrels with him in the morning, then in the afternoon we met him again at Burghead where we saw red breasted merganser, gannet, eiders, turnstone, red shank and long tailed duck – a first for me! All part of the service! In the evening we visited the Speyside Wildlife Hide and saw a badger, three mice and the object of desire…… a pine marten – also another first for me. What a day!
The next day found us in the Findhorn Valley and within a minute of parking we viewed a golden eagle, female hen harrier, buzzards and had a very close encounter with a red kite. We spotted red deer on the hillside as well as the local feral mountain goats.
Add to that the warm welcome, fantastic staff and comfort of this lovely hotel and you have a wonderful recipe for chilling and opting out of all the mayhem that pre Christmas can bring. We feel thoroughly relaxed and ready to face Christmas now.
Thanks to David and his team of helpful, friendly staff. We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and very best wishes for 2014 when we will be back for sure!

This was our 2nd stay at the hotel on a Dinner, Bed and Breakfast basis. Thoroughly enjoyed both visits. Hotel staff and BWWC team are very knowledgeable about the local area and wildlife. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. Food was fantastic.

I spent a week at The Grant Arms Hotel, DB&B basis, during December '13. The hotel, all trimmed ready for Christmas and looking very festive, was very comfortable and the food was great. The main reason for my visit was to see the local wildlife so the addition of the BWWC based within the hotel was fantastic. The BWWC team were extremely helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. The Daily Chrip, daily-updated notice board and excellently-equipped resource centre helped me to decide my daily bird- & wildlife-watching activities. I saw many 'firsts' for me, including mountain hare, crested tit (crestie!), pine marten and black grouse. Thank you to all the hotel team for making my stay so comfortable and enjoyable.

We recently stayed for 5 nights on dinner, bed and breakfast terms and this was our third stay. We had a great time with excellent food and helpful staff and with the addition of the BWWC it was a bird watcher's dream. We are already considering when we might be able to stay here again.

Room Tip: Booking an upgrade is well worthwhile. Very light sleepers may have a problem with road noise with...

We stayed two nights for a conference. The rooms are clean, warm and varied. The staff are attentive, adaptive and diligent. The food was of a uniformly high standard and excellent for variety, quantity & quality. The Victorian massivity of the building seems to guarantee quiet sleep. The surrounding town is similarly tranquil and is an orderly place where the locals smile welcomingly on seeing a stranger in their midst. There are no unpleasant corners such as sometimes may be found in older buildings. If you want a peaceful and well-served stay, you can hardly go wrong with this hotel.

Room Tip: In such a building there seem to be varied rooms so ask for what you want - the staff are efficient...

We have returned yet again and are pleased to announce that it is maintaining its' high standards. Staff relaxed, efficient, helpful and friendly. We Spent a week enjoying the Autumn wildlife and spectacular sights of this part of Scotland.
The events put on by the BWWC were excellent, 3 excellent talks, 2 walks and longer watches with John of the BWWC and a brilliant Sunday morning walk in Anagach woods with Dave from Birding Ecosse.
We were given a huge family style room which meant the two of us could have swung many wildcats if we had seen them!
The WiFi was a good signal and fast. We were on the second floor and used the lift for luggage but used the stairs for the rest of the time to burn off the breakfasts!
Breakfasts were excellent with the cooked breakfasts being presented buffet style but presumably regularly replenished because everything including plates was hot and the fried eggs had runny yolks and were not in the least but rubbery(often the case with buffet breakfasts). Other items such as poached eggs, porridge and kippers could be done to order.
The included evening meal had an excellent choice and 2 of us eating for 7 days only had 2 slightly disappointing meals and that was our taste rather than lack of quality! Make sure you choose the Venison Casserole if it is offered as it is a dish to die for!
The rest of the clientelle were relaxed and friendly and the BWWC evening briefings were a useful way of getting aquainted with people and passing on knowledge of where different bird species were at that time.
If you are not into wildlife then just ignore this side of the hotel and go for the comfort the food and the scenery. If you are a nature lover then this is an excellent place to base yourself.

Room Tip: The front rooms have a good view over the square and the problem with boy racers seems to have gone!

Our second visit did not disappoint and purely by chance was exactly the same week as last year. Must go in spring next time! Whilst being promoted as a wildlife centre it is extremely relaxing with not a Twitcher in sight. If you are new to Birdwatching as we are relatively speaking, an experienced birder, or even a tourist who enjoys stunning scenery etc then come here.
The food on dbb package is excellent both in value and taste, the staff are so helpful and the seperate wildlife rooms are incredibly stocked with info.
Nothing is to much trouble for the staff here.

Room Tip: First floor are easy stairs to get to other floors have lift acces if you need it. We like the front...
