We stayed here for 5 night on a Birdwatching Magazine break at the end of October 2012. The accommodation was very good (slightly small bedroom being the only very minor negative point) the service and food excellent (faultless). The best thing for wildlife enthusiast though is the Bird Club and facilities centred in the hotel. There is a bird watching Club Room with events on every evening we were there, including briefings on sightings, wildlife films and talks. There is a great wildlife library and a large number of free leaflets for reasonably local bird sites plus books, maps etc for sale.
The location is superb for birding, with the Cairngorms (ptarmigan and snow bunting), Loch Garten, Rspb Insh Marshes, Findhorn Valley (the valley of the raptors) and Burghead on the coast all places that are well worth a visit.
In summary, a highly recommended hotel and location for birding.

This hotel is superb, food, accommodation, decor and the staff are friendly, helpful and local! It is a unique concept a hotel run by a wildlife and birding club. Plenty of information, handouts on where to go, what to see, knowledgeable staff who will guide you, plus films on local wildlife.

Our room(112) was large, comfortable and had a four poster bed! A small moan, lack of storage space in bathroom but overall a lovely room.

Food is plentiful and they use local produce in an imaginative way, as it is all freshly prepared, there are definite times to dine in the evening.

We will definitely return.

Room Tip: Superior rooms all face over square

I have stayed in B&Bs in grantown on a couple of occasions but for just £20/night extra the differance was significant and the value for money excellent (circa £60 for dinner B&B). Room great, see comments below. Clean warm, newly fitted en suite and loads of hot water whenever you want it. Food just excellent. Could not believe the choice and taste of the fayre and the restaurant staff were particulary attentive and seemed to show a genuine care for you the guest having a great dinner. Well done chef and co! Bar lacks a bit of atmosphere but its easy to relax here and they do a nice pint and some excellent scotches!
Grantown was where I went to school and the grant arms has had some mixed fortunes in its times. I was glad to see the hotel refurbshed and taking an interesting slant on wildlife and catering for those interested in it. Good luck to you Grant Arms

Room Tip: I stayed in 210 which was a very nice double facing the square. Simple but newly fitted en suite wit...

The hotel is unique in that it offers wonderful birding and wildlife information as well as being a good base for exploring both the coast and the Cairngorm National Park. The hotel offers very comfortable accommodation and good food. The staff are pleasant, helpful and knowledgeable. We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 night stay there.

We stay at the grant arms hotel BBD for 6 nights, we'd booked the hotel following an ad in the RSPB magazine and chose it for the wildlife aspect mainly.
We had a warm welcome, our room 209 was a standard room at the front of the hotel.
The TV was stupidly placed too low making it difficult to view it while lay in bed, but it had a BWWC (bird watchers and wildlife club) channel with updates and constant bird song, this was nice and made a lovely extra to our welcome as it was on when we got into our room.
Bed was comfy. Toilet/shower room was tiny and basic but non-problematic. Tea/coffee facilities were available in the room, the usual sachets with tiny pots of milk (never enough milk) Decor and furniture all of a good standard in the room.
Breakfast was fantastic, full buffet, everything you could want.
Dinner was a 4 choice 3 course menu, we allways found something to chose and over all the food was fantastic, service was allways of a very high standard.
Bar was modern and comfortable but service here was poor, just 1 staff with a poor knowledge, 15minutes to make a gaelic coffee, he even allowed a non-english-speaking large group take over and rearrange the bar on one evening making other guests feel unwelcome.
BWWC facilities great, more than enough information, talks on 2 nights were fab, guided walk was lovley.
we'l be returning for sure.

Room Tip: traffic can be heard at the front, (there seem to be a few locals who like to race their cars at nig...

Have just returned from our 15th or 16th stay in this lovely hotel. The staff are simply fantastic; they never fail to put themselves out to help; the food is 5 star standard and served with 5 star excellence. I have to use a wheelchair and the hotel has made it very easy for my husband and I to get around and everyone from reception to the BWWC and restaurant staff treat me with great kindness and courtesy. We are greatly looking forward to returning for our Christmas break

We were a group visiting Cairngorms National Park for a studytrip. We stayed at the hotel for three nights. The staff was friendly, the rooms were spacious, but what really made the difference, was the three course dinner. Local produce, and very good!
