“Educational and interesting”

The museum was quite secluded but signposts made it easy to find. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Lots of different sections of interesting history. Great for schools. A good family day out as lots of activities for kids.

“Hidden gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 2, 2013

This place is full of surprises. Lots of interesting things to see with an overall history of Great Yarmouth up until present day. I personally loved the rows. The authenticity of the smoke house makes you feel like you're part of history itself as you can still smell the fish from years ago. The size of the museum is deceptive, once inside it is surprisingly large. Well worth a visit, especially with all the extra events held throughout the year.

“Interesting couple of hours spent at this fascinating museum”

The Tide and Time museum will not fail to allure you to the yesteryears of Great Yarmouth's history.

It is located in the historic quarter and is accessible for wheel chair users. Very good bathroom, rest area and cafe facilities as well. Most welcoming and friendly reception staff. Concessions for seniors available. Free handset (well worth using - excellent commentaries, story telling, music in local accent).

The two most interesting visits for us included the the Rows (reconstruction) and the Fishwharf/Smokehouse.. There was a lingering smell of smoked herrings (I was naive enough to think the museum had sprayed the area for effect! One of the guides explained it was not the case).

All the sections are interesting if one wants to know more about the 'rise and fall' of Great Yarmouth. There is also a regular exhibition of contemporary artists.

Definitely recommend this visit. It can be combined with a visit of the medieval town wall (almost intact and very interesting) which isn't far from the museum.
