“Would stay there again”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2013

We were greeted by Dave who came out to the car park and helped with the cases. He explained that you ordered breakfast on a daily basis and so we chose ours as soon as we got there for the following morning. He didn't rush us to do this but it makes sense so he knows what he is catering for each morning. We weren't asked for payment as soon as we got there, in fact I asked him when he wanted payment. I paid as soon as we got there as it is over and done with. As it is cash or cheque only obviously you need to pay when you get there so they know that if you pay by cheque it has time to clear. Every B & B I have stayed at you pay as soon as you arrive. Dave carried my case to the room and showed us around so we knew how to work the shower and TV etc. The room was large enough and the chairs in the room to watch TV or read etc were comfortable. The bed was comfortable and yes it did have a single sheet on a double bed but the duvet was full size so no problem at all. The towels were changed after day 2 of a 4 night stay which was a nice surprise as I didn't expect them to be changed on a shortish stay. The shower unit was very powerful and although the bathroom was on the small size it was adequate, after all everyone wants en suite and these Victorian buildings have had to have them added to the original rooms so they are compact and you lose space in the bedrooms as a result. We stayed in room 6 which overlooks a park and it had a double and a single bed in it and was quite spacious the hotel was quiet and very central for everything. You can walk to anywhere in Great Yarmouth from here. We found Dave very helpful and he has a good sense of humor - we only saw his wife twice but she was pleasant each time we saw her. When we left Dave offered to get the cases and take them to the car for us. If we stay at Great Yarmouth again we would stay here again. It is a good B & B I think people who griped were expecting hotel facilities but this is an old fashioned B & B.

Room Tip: Room 6 was on the front and on the first floor and was a nice size

Nice clean rooms, quiet area. Very welcoming couple David knew all about the history, made us very welcome, nice quiet area room very clean and comfortable. Breakfast very appetising and as much as we wanted. Very close to the town centre. We would certainly go back and stay again. Well done Maryland Guest House

Just returned from a long weekend at the Maryland guest house and in my opinion I could not fault a thing . We were greeted by Dave who we found to be most welcoming and a great font of knowledge about the local history as well as places to visit and see .His wife was most pleasant and, yes, in answer to another review she did want us to order breakfast there and then ,but ,surely you have a good idea what you eat in the mornings ,I just ordered full english with juice every day job done, and I must say it was prepared fresh and hot every morning with a huge pot of tea and an endless supply of toast,so if you leave the table still hungry then you,ve only yourself to blame.
The room was impecably clean with tea and coffee replenished daily the shower was good and hot and again ,in reply to another review about the room size ,what do people want, it is a bedroom which means you sleep in there not hold dinner parties ,ours was faultless with enough room to do all we needed .
So to sum up, do what we did ignore all the bad, petty reviews and just remember you are not going to stay at the Hilton you are going to stay in a good old fashioned guest house .It is well situated for the town centre ,a stones throw from the sea front with plenty of free on street parking if the car park is full so go and enjoy (To Dave and Lucille thank you from Kev & Karen )

spent a few days at the maryland and it is the only bed and breakfast i would never go back to again.i was greeted by asking for my payment and breakfast requirements as i walked in the door, not welcome to the maryland or did you have a safe journey which puts you in an awkward situation.the room was clean but the shower leaked and when you go for breakfast, the bacon is black, the eggs are hard and the sausages are like plastic.it needs updating and the food needs to improve as i can,t believe it has a 4 star rating,i,d give it a 1 or 2 star at best.

Greeted warmly by Dave on arrival and he gave us details of local attractions etc. He then showed us our room and carried my bag. Room was up several flights of stairs and had a view of a rather large car park, a little disappointing as the guest house was not full, so therefore could not see the reasons for being right at the top at the back. Room small but functional with ensuite shower. Everythng was clean and tidy but the towels had really seen better days and could do with being replaced. TV did not work and when we mentioned this, to I assume was Dave's wife although she did not introduce herself, she was a little abrupt but it was sorted.

Breakfast - choosen the day before and adequate but nothing special and obviously the cheapests ingredients used. Dave was very efficient and made a wonderful waiter. He advised us on the best places to park for our days out and was very friendly and helpful.

A good place to stay for a few nights and Dave seemed to run the guest house on his own. We only saw "Mrs Dave" twice once for the TV and when we paid!!!!!!!! It would have been nice to have the warm welcome Dave gave us from both of them!!

Cant comment on other meals and did not sample them as not aware they did anything other than B and B

Room Tip: Please be aware that there are lots of stairs and heavy fire doors.... not easy for the elderly

Spent a weekend at The Maryland in Great Yarmouth and the welcome we recieved was very friendly. Rooms were fairly small but very clean and comfortable. Situated in an ideal place away from the noise of the sea front but within 5 minutes of all attractions. Breakfast was also very nice. I would highly recommend staying here.

Needed somewhere last minute to stay in Yarmouth for three nights. Maryland can't be booked through usual booking sites late rooms etc. so had to call. They don't take cards so it's cash or cheque only.

Arrived and was greeted by owners - nice welcome. Rather odd I had to choose my breakfasts for the three mornings there and then. And breakfast is 8.30. Not 8.30-9.30. 8.30. 8am on peak Saturday's so goodbye lie in!

Shown to room, small but fine. Location good. Quiet area, lots of free on street parking which is great. One minute walk to seafront, five (tops) to pier and shops.

I tend not to stay in b and b's and was reminded why. Room was a bit chintzy for my taste. Rooms were only given a cursory tidy. Towels not changed. Even the loo roll wasn't put on the dispenser when the previous roll ran out. Small flatscreen tv with freeview good. Breakfast ok. Eggs hugely overlooked and rubbery. Sour tasting beans. Bacon nice though. Orange juice was a small glass and coffee topped up if you wanted it.

For the location and friendly Owners I'd rate it 3/5. I'm not sure how they got their four star rating as in my opinion it falls short of that.
