“Incredible find!”
Reviewed May 17, 2013

Down a winding path by Ogden reservoir is this wonderful tea room. Wonderful welcome on a drizzly day and even better food. I had the coffee cake and goats cheese tart and they were fantastic! Everyone should make a special trip here - a real hidden gem.

“Beautiful little coffee shop tucked away in the woods”
Reviewed May 1, 2013

Tried to visit this on Monday but it was closed - only opens Wed - Sun March to November 10.00 till 4.00. this a is 2013 report
It is a new venture and it is using part of the proprietors house.
There is no vehicular access to this coffee shop and currently no toilet facilites. Best option is to park in Ogden water, use the toliets there, and walk through the woods to the coffee shop. It's 275 yds down a track through the woods but once the banks of the reservoir have been strengthened then you can get there much easier by going off the promenade and it's a skip and a jump to get there. Your other option is to go past Ogden Water entrance towards Halifax about 800yds and there is a track there which says unsuitable for motor vehicles. If you can park anywhere on the road then it seems to be a steady walk down the track to the place.
Lady there is very friendly and chatty, dog seems to want stroking and thinks that if it hangs around you it might get something!
Beautiful views. I sat on the table facing the window and very pleasant. Coffee warm scone jam butter & cream 3.50. Good choice menu and it all looks freshly made.
Various places to sit outside on the various terraces or in the sunhouse.

“Lovely in every way”
Reviewed April 18, 2013

This little cafe has opened up in a house that served as a cafe in the early part of the C20th. It sits just below the dam of Ogden Reservoir in north Halifax, which is a green flag country park...one of the best in the country. Sadly, due to disinvestment by the council who are themselves struggling with cuts from central government, the reservoir visitor center is seldom open these days.
Thankfully Boggart Brig has opened to offer refreshment to the many walkers who use this beautiful corner of West Yorkshire.
The position is fabulous...South West facing amongst mixed woodland, it's a sheltered sun trap, which makes the terrace a very attractive spot to sit out even in early spring. There are bird feeders all over the place so a steady succession of feathered visitors etc provide live entertainment. The view opposite is typical pennine moorland. If it's a bit too chilly, there's a summer house to sit in or inside the cafe itself.
The sign on the door proclaiming that muddy boots and dogs are welcome gives a clue as to the levels of warm hospitality the hosts provide. Inside, a cleanly and tastefully decorated conservatory extension serves as the seating area.
It is someone's home. It feels exactly like that...dropping into a friend's place for a cuppa. There are probably about 15 covers I suppose. In the centre of the dining area is a table festooned with home baked cakes.
The menu is simple...soups, salads, sandwiches, poached eggs etc. It is all cooked in the house kitchen which you can see is gratifyingly clean and organised. It's clearly a labour of love. At busy times I suspect there may be an issue keeping up with orders but the ambience is so pleasant, I don't suppose anyone will be too bothered about waiting. As it happens, we were served quickly.
The teas and coffees were excellent and well presented. The food was delicious....the home made spring vegetable soup was especially recommended.
There aren't yet any toilets available but there are public toilets about 200 metres away. Hopefully the planners will allow for toilets on site soon.
It's a fledgling enterprise but it's hard to fault in the way everything is done. It's so good that it's tempting to visit Ogden just to sit for a relaxing cuppa on the terrace. A lovely spot to sit in the sun, read a book or just watch and listen to the local birdlife.
