Shibden Hall is a charming and nicely kept museum and grounds. It shows in the room displays how folk lived and in the aisle barn and courtyard beyond their are some interesting displays with regard to occupations - Coopers, Blacksmiths - there is an apothecary and even a ‘pub’ along with an assortment of carriages and fire engines.
The house and buildings are well worth a visit. You can purchase books and small gifts. There is a 25 min film on Anne Walker and as the upcoming BBC programme is about to air in April I dare say this will put a bit of a spotlight on this charming place.
The estate is partly lawned, partly wooded and has quite a bit to entertain young and old alike - a ‘land train’ ride £2 per person, a miniature train, a children’s playground, a bouncy castle. There is a cafe down by the lake.
All in all a nice half day/day out. Do be aware that there are at least two car parks one by the house, one by the cafe and a third entrance (not sure if it has parking). It is not very clearly signed and the roads around Halifax are somewhat confusing to someone who has not been before and it is easy to take a wrong turning - do check this out. There is disabled parking both by the lake and near the house. Be aware that in the house disabled patrons my not be able to go upstairs however there is an entrance without steps into the ground floor. There is an admittance charge (£5 - there are annual passes which may be better value).
It’s a lovely place to visit.

We visited Shibden Hall and went round this house with it's wonderful woodwork.
The woodwork ranging over a few hundred years was of superb quality especially the marvellous staircase. Being a retired joiner one of the staff showed me secret panels which covered the original stonework. The gardens were great and we willcertainly come again in better weather.

Really lovely attraction for a few hours tranquility. Well kept and maintained. Even better when the sun is shining.
