Lovely setting, with excellent, attentive staff. Food good, albeit with quite narrow choices, particularly if staying for a few days. Rooms are ok, although some are a little small and/or old-fashioned. Those with a mezzanine second floor are great.

From the first time we visited Holdsworth House up until our special day in December the staff could not have done more for us. Always courteous and friendly. The people in charge of wedding preparations, aside from a couple of small hiccups which were easily sorted, did a splendid job. The day itself went fantastically well. The staff did little extras for our guests (such as getting bottled water to take to the room) which we were told about over breakfast, making their stay even more enjoyable. The food as always was a delight and the room had everything we needed. Thanks for everything

Having dined here on a number of occasions decided to book an overnight treat. Dinner was very good as usual, food well presented and tasty. However a wedding party was in which meant normal diners were seated to the front area of the restaurant which is close to entrance and basically a thoroughfare to the bar (of which there was quite a bit of traffic) which is a little off putting whilst trying to have an romantic dinner!

The room was disappointing and not in keeping with rest of the building. Whilst this was a modern extension to the original building the room was tired and dated and the bathroom especially poor plus lots of noise from passing traffic in the hallway. Having read other reviews this seems to be a general theme, I would happy to accept a small and compact room but the quality of the furnishing and presentation didn’t meet my expectations of the venue. Next time we’ll take a taxi home after dinner.

Dear Mike W, thank you for your review of Holdsworth House. We are disappointed that decor of your room was not to your liking. We have invested significant funds in 2013 already, refurbishing a number of rooms - our latest has just been completed this week. You can see the progress of these on our Facebook page. We do hope you'll return for another stay so you can experience the style and quality of our newly completed rooms.

I got married here on Sunday 24th Feb. From the first contact with wedding planner Claire to the day itself I cannot fault the hotel. All the way through all the staff were extremely helpful and you could really see the effort that had gone into making the day special. The master of ceremony Phil made me feel instantly at ease and ensured everything ran smoothly on the day. The ceremony was just amazing which is on you tube. The food was outstanding and the room looked amazing, the hotel even let us have a projector to have a photo slide show playing and for the best man's speech. The evening reception was such fun the dance floor was never empty thanks to the DJ. We all had quite a bit to drink and really let out hair down. All the waiting and bar staff worked really hard. I found out later that 4 staff didn't turn in that day but you wouldn't have noticed the service was 5 star!
If you are planning a wedding look no further than Holdsworth House its beautiful all year round and you won't be left dissatisfied!

All our love Mr & Mrs Lancashire xxx look forward to seeing you again soon :-)

Stayed one night at Holdsworth as we're on a tour around the area and visiting Black Dyke Band. The reception staff were really helpful and check was easy. The room was lovely and plenty big enough for us but I understand from other reviews that the twin rooms are bigger, so we were happy. Very comfy beds and super soft duvets. All very clean and bathroom was functional and spotless. We arrived back after the kitchen had closed but the staff very kindly allowed me to order room service. Breakfast was lovely and plentiful and the staff again were very friendly.

Having stayed in a number of less than brilliant hotels in West Yorkshire over recent years I was recommended this hotel by a colleague and thought I would give it a go - and am very glad I did!

Good points
- the staff are brilliant both at reception and in the restaurant. I had to re- book my stay because of the snow in January and it was done without fuss in a very helpful manner.
- the food is great in the restaurant - evening meals are varied and high quality - breakfast much better than usual hotel fare
- some of the rooms are very comfy and well appointed
- restaurant is vey atmospheric
- plenty of parking

Room for improvement
- the wifi in the hotel rooms is patchy - having now stayed in several rooms it is a bit of a lottery as to whether you get a good signal or not - very frustrating
- some of the rooms are a little tired and their size is on the small side ( on the latter point it is a Jacobean manor house so to be expected I guess)

Will be staying again - hope I get a room with the decent wifi next time :-)

Firstly can I say how stunning the grounds look all year round but even in Winter! We arrived at Holdsworth House our first venue visit for potential wedding venues and it was our last as we instantly fell in love with the house, it was everything we dreamed of and more! And the icing on the cake was that they offered great value for money winter wedding packages which was perfect for us. Claire the wedding co-ordinator was great whenever we had a query she replied pronto and helped with all our last minute details and changes!

We married at our local church and travelled to Holdsworth House for our reception. the staff were fantastic and really looked after us, it was our special day and our toast master Tracey was absolutely brilliant she really did look after us on the day. We had forgotten to ask about dietary requirements in all the excitement and at the last minute the Chef whipped up two vegetarian meals. The food was superb,I would even say the best I have ever had! The stuart room was gorgeously set out and they had left the Christmas decorations up so it looked so cosy!

All our family and friends felt so welcomed and relaxed in the hotel and so many who stayed commented on how good a nights sleep they had. The beds were so comfortable that it was very hard to get out of bed. The bridal suite was beautiful!

We lost day light fast on the day and the hotel allowed us to go back and have some more pictures taken in the grounds.

All in all a superb family run hotel which offers great value, a superb location, great friendly staff, and the chance to make some of the most precious memories in your life. I would like to think that Holdsworth House is now somewhere we will continue to visit and on special occasions stay.

I would recommend this hotel for weddings, meals or to stay, you are guaranteed a special experience!
