“Nice, just nice...”
Reviewed October 21, 2012

Well I have stayed at Holdsworth House hotel on two previous occasions a few years ago and I had the chance to stay here again after being invited to a wedding ceremony here. What can I say, it's a nice hotel... The location is about 4 miles outside Halifax town centre and there is ample parking in the grounds. The style of the hotel is very "old world" with lots of gilded picture frames and oak paneling. The gardens and front facade of the building are beautiful and give lovely opportunities for photos post wedding.

On the whole the staff are attentive and welcoming and well presented, however some of the waiting staff could smile a bit more. We were able to check in 3 hours before the guaranteed check in of 3pm which was a perk. The room was well presented and the bed was comfortable.

On the negative side, as we found out after trying to navigate a wheelchair through the building, the place is not wheelchair friendly. Also the cooked breakfast was overly greasy and not hot, and was served with cold wangy toast. I also don't think the hotel rate is good value for money for the experience (Double room £162 as of 21/10/12)

Unless I was able to get another discount on the room rate (as I did on this occasion), I wouldn't stay at this hotel again as I don't think it is worth the brass.

Dear halifax_explorer, thank you for your review of Holdworth House and for staying here whilst attending a wedding. We are so pleased that you enjoyed the atmosphere of the manor and its many features. As with other listed buildings of such historic importance we are not permitted to alter the layout of the hotel but we do provide wheelchair ramp access to all areas and our teams always assist guests in any way they can. We were naturally disappointed to hear our Yorkshire breakfast was not up to the usual exceptional standard; we receive many compliments for the food at Holdsworth and I know the head chef will be concerned that, on this occasion, you were disappointed. As an independent hotel, we really appreciate feedback from our guests and use it as the basis for ongoing staff training and to enable us to identify any areas which may need further attention.

My fiancee and I had been looking for a wedding venue that ticked all the boxes for a long time. When we saw Holdsworth house we knew we were onto a winner. The entrance and feel of the hotel is fantastic and the interior especially with the low wooden beams gives a real romantic feel. We could not be more excited with the venue and cannot wait to be married there. On another note the food at the restaurant is excellent. Very high standard. The staff are very professional and polite. The hotel is a fantastic stay, the restaurant is a great evenings meal and it is a amazing place to have a wedding.

me and hubby stayed here as part of our 10th wedding anniversary trip away, wish we hadnt. Area around hotel is awful, nowhere decent to drive or walk to thats close by.Hotel was nice enough though, picturesque around the small grounds. Room was nice with everything you need. However there was a wedding on that we hadnt been pre warned about otherwise would not have booked. The whole hotel was taken over and were actually asked more than once to move out of public rooms that we were relaxing in and trying to have a quiet drink so that the wedding guests could occupy them. We ended up having to sit in the bedroom for the rest of the night so the wedding could have free run over the place. Not impressed especially with what we paid for it. The staff were not apologetic or didnt offer us anywhere else we could of gone and sat they were more concerned with sorting the wedding party out. Wouldnt go back and wouldnt reccomend after personal experience.

Dear Sarahball78 thank you for your review of Holdsworth House, we receive your comments gratefully but we are disappointed that you left less than 100% happy as we hope to resolve any complaints whist guests are at the hotel. We do have lots of weddings because of our stunning surroundings and our policy is to advise all leisure guests of any weddings at the point of booking, however this is only possible if you book by telephone. We are very sorry that you were not informed on this occasion and we'll revisit our procedures to ensure this is highlighted to our team. Reception has copies of local walking maps, showing the Calderdale Way and the Bronte Way, which are very close to the hotel and we are more than happy to point you in the right direction of the wonderful attractions nearby, which are well worth a visit. I hope that you will stay with us again when in Halifax, we would welcome the opportunity to show you our hotel and Yorkshire in all its glory.

This place lived up to my expectations and beyond!

I took my Grandma here for Afternoon tea and did not expect such a lovely setting. Looked just like the photos. The interior is spectacular and so homely and inviting. The gardens are beautiful and I imagine would be lovely to sit out in the summer.

Afternoon tea is a bargain at £12.75 per person. One of the best I have ever had for the price. My only gripe was the tea was made of tea bags and i always expect loose tea leaf with afternoon tea but the tea tasted good so was not a big deal.

We got a large quantity of sandwhiches, rare roast beef, smoked salmon and cheese and pickle. The scones were nice and the chocolate brownie was gorgeous, the most moist chocolate sponge I have tasted, would love the recipe!

The staff were supper and really quick with requests for extra hot water and milk.

My Gran was so impressed she want the family to come here for our Boxing day Lunch.

Would deffinatley come again, superb!
