“Thumbs Down to Jocks' Bar's Battered haddock”
Reviewed November 23, 2013

We often have Saturday lunch here and over the years have found the food good and the staff and service excellent. We go especially for the battered haddock which has always been light, tasty and crisp around very good fish. Not so today! We were presented with a fish shaped 'thing' which looked vaguely like breaded haddock. The 'batter' was a hard, brown, flat effort, moist and doughy on its inner surface and the fish of dubious quality. It looks as if they have gone over to buying in fish ready ?battered. Not a good move. The chips were very good however and we would have been happy to pay a little more and have proper batter made in the kitchen as appeared to be the case in the past. Let us hope it is a temporary state of affairs for if not we will not be eating there so often and certainly will not have today's dish again.
The staff were,as always, friendly and helpful making it a pleasure to go there.

We took up a dinner, bed and breakfast offer at the Green Hotel and we're so glad we did. It's a good old-fashioned hotel and I mean that in the nicest possible way - great service, good standards, attentive and gracious staff and fresh, local produce in the restaurant. Our room was huge and very comfortable although the decor was slightly tired and the en-suite bathroom would benefit from a revamp. It was quiet and we slept well after a really good meal in their Basil's restaurant. A special mention must go to the restaurant staff who were first class, so helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. The food was excellent - very fresh local produce cooked imaginatively by a skilled chef. My only slight criticism was that we couldn't buy dessert wine by the glass. The hotel has great facilities, a health club with pool, sauna, gym etc, a bar restaurant and a lovely little gift shop which doesn't stock the usual Scottish tat but good quality gifts across the price range. Breakfast was excellent, self-service but a lovely range of hot and cold food. If you're looking for a country break in beautiful Perthshire then we thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Stayed for 1 night last weekend. The toilets weren't accessible in the foyer area however alternative facilities were provided. The room was excellent and very big with a huge bed (2 singles pushed together). The only issue with the room was the heating was off all night, and the room was cold. When we complained the receptionist did bring a small fan heater but this was of no use as it gave off an awful smell! Jocks bar is great for lunch and a couple of drinks, good food and beer! The lounge area outside the bistro was lovely and the small games room with pool table was good also. The staff from the bistro, particularly the woman who was the head waitress, was very friendly and helpful, and made sure that our party had a table together for breakfast, and breakfast was tasty!! Overall a great stay :)

Bought this break through Buyagift and I must say it was a real bargain. The hotel rooms are beautiful with king sized beds and are very warm and comfortable. The leisure facilities are in the hotel across the road and are first class. The breakfast was delicious and varied and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I would not hesitate in recommending The Green Hotel.

It was our 5th visit. On July (!) I booked a double room on ground floor for November. When we checked in we got a room on first floor (no lift). The lady told me that on ground they have only twins. I told her that it's not truth, she said:"yes ,but they are all full". No one offered us help with the luggage upstairs!
All other aspects - the same good hotel.

My husband and I spent one night at the Green Hotel as part of a touring holiday of Scotland. Having lived in Kinross for some years ago, we knew the hotel well but had never stayed there. Sadly we were disappointed.

Our booking was made through an agency who offered a favourable tarriff. On arrival the reception was friendly and welcoming. However, it took some time to locate our room, having asked several members of staff. The room was spacious, comprising double bed, comfortable chairs, dressing table, television, etc. The outlook was onto a central garden area. It was a hot day on our arrival and we attempted to open the windows. This proved difficult as they would only open about 1". The bathroom left much to be desired. The bath had stains on the base, suggesting it had not been cleaned for some time or was showing its age. The shower was not very effective. The washbasin taps did not appear clean. A half-used bottle of shampoo was left on the shelf - ? from a previous guest. The lineolem flooring was shabby, having been repaired numerous times. The tile grouting was discoloured.

Outside the room, the decor had become tired and in need of attention - chipped paintwork, peeling paper, etc.

We did not have an evening meal at the hotel as we were meeting up with friends that day. However, we did have breakfast the next morning. This was of an average standard.

Having seen this hotel over many years, it was disappointing to see how it had deteriorated. It hardly deserves a 4 star rating. We have contacted the hotel twice to express our opinion - July 2013 and October 2013 - but have yet to receive a reply.

We had a great non flashy pub meal in this bar, which is part of the Green Hotel.
There was nothing fancy, just tasty food served by attentive staff, what more do you need before attending a gig at Backstage, also part of the Green Hotel.
