The staff are excellent, the hotel cosy, the room was excellent (nice and warm)
Bottle of wine on arrival.
Dinner in the Hotel resturant (Basil's) was 10/10
The Spa at the Hotel's twin across the road was superb as well - Heated indoor pool, steam room and suna.

A nice relaxing time and just 40 minutes from home.

We have lunched in Jock's Bar several times over the past 2 years. The food has always been excellent - quickly served and nicely presented. The staff can be slightly brusque but are good and attentive. We have never been disappointed, nor had any reason to complain. (Group of three - one friend and two family.)
The list of house wines is generous, and easy to see (on a blackboard) so that you need not hurry, and you know the price (small glass, large glass, or bottle) before ordering.
There is also a restaurant but we have stuck to Jock's Bar as the comfort, prices and quality suit us all.

I booked a deal through one of the many websites for my wife and I. I also let them know my wife was a vegetarian before we travelled. The old main street the hotel is situated on gradually becomes more empty and deserted - with many lovely old sand stone houses sitting next to closed shops, a shut down school and a really old abandoned petrol station.

The hotel was easy to find and its sister hotel with all the spa facilities was across the road. We checked in easily and the staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was in the newer part of the hotel, but the corridor to the room had the creakiest floors ever. The room was on the corner looking out over the west facing lawn and had a view of an old walled garden that had been turned into tennis courts. A big square room, well appointed with a big bay window and a comfortable bed. The bathroom was huge too. A bottle of wine was waiting for us when we checked in as part of our package. A nice touch. We spent a couple of hours across the road at the spa - and because of the time of year there were only another half dozen people at the pool. The pool and the changing facilities were really nice, as was the sauna and jacuzzi. Couldn't fault them at all.

Back at our hotel we got ready for dinner. The restaurant was nicely laid out, but very quiet. We were quickly served and our starters were fine, vegetarian soup of the day and pate' with toast for me. My main was delicious, but we were not satisfied with the vegetarian meal laid on. It sounded good - asparagus and artichoke risotto - but it ended up being too creamy and was more like a pudding. My wife's sweet was good, as was my cheese board. Both the staff who served us were really nice, really helpful - could not fault either of them. Very good attitude. During the night we were having a really good sleep - that is until 5am in the morning when a "shooting party" decided to talk at the top of their voices and shut their doors over and over for around 20 minutes.... more of a guest problem than a hotel problem but still it wasn't good. Breakfast in the morning was very good.

All in all the hotel was very nice for a one night stay, the staff were friendly and helpful, the room was large and well appointed. It has the look of an old hotel, and in parts was. The new part we stayed in wasnt very well sound proofed and the shooting party proved that for us - however - we still enjoyed the day away - and for the price I didnt have much to complain about

Room Tip: well away from the bars - and watch out for "shooting" or "golfing" or "fis...

Spent two nights recently on a dinner bed and breakfast basis. The room was tired although comfortable. There was a wedding on the first night and the music penetrated until 1 am.
the biggest fault was the restaurant. The menu was limited. starters were not available. vegetables came very late after the meal was served. Wine arrived even later. The meal quality was poor. at £25 per head this was not good value for money. The wine was also very expensive.
I felt sorry for the waiting staff as they tried their best but were obviously let down by the kitchen.
In organisational terms the hotel was poorly organised. it appeared that no one passed on issues to one another and denied knowledge of things that had previously been agreed. When the going got tough the duty manager was no where to be seen.
Will I return....I doubt it!

Room Tip: A room that is not anywhere above the function suits

I booked a spa day experience here with ItIsOn (a Scottish style GroupOn) and let me start by telling you the pictures used to advertise the place bear absolutely no resemblance the actual hotel & spa. I had booked the day as a treat for my auntie who'd come to visit from Canada & was mortified when we turned up. It should be rated as two star max. I obviously didn't see any of the rooms but the swimming pool was like a (bad) local leisure centre. It has a number of cheap plastic garden furniture sets around the edge of the pool and the big double glazed windows around the pool (which overlooks the car park) were full of condensation. The 'spa' was also like a bad joke. The treatment rooms didn't have a chair, coat hook, cupboard or anywhere for you to put your clothes/bag when you have a treatment. The girl treating me did her best but clearly hasn't been trained properly. I was having a facial and she didn't ask anything about my skin type, etc. There was also a funny bit in the disclaimer you sign before treatment starts stating that any time lost getting on and off the treatment bed will be deducted from the treatment time!!

In all fairness the staff across the hotel were nice and helpful, and the food was actually good. But the atmosphere of the place was so dowdy and depressing, you'd have to pay me to go back... Don't say you've haven't been warned!

Just spent a curling weekend at the Green.
First night got no sleep till 1.45 as our room was directly above a wedding disco. It took 30 minutes to find the duty manager and the front desk and phone were not manned despite the hotel being full!
Room was tatty and tired, especially the bathroom. Toilet would only flush every 30 minutes.
Dinner menu ran out of the popular dishes on both evenings and the food was very average. Breakfast buffet ok.
A drinks reception organised well in advance did not materialise and had to be hastily put together by the staff.
We were given a discount on departure due to our problems on the first night, but only after some discussion at check out.
The swimming pool and sauna are actually at the hotel across the road, and they were fine.
The staff were generally very friendly and helpful, but up against it in this establishment.

Room Tip: Stay away from the function suites when there is a party on.
