“Pleasant stay”
Reviewed October 13, 2013

We stayed here as part of a spa break deal. It is true that the common areas of the hotel are perhaps in need of modernising, but our room seemed newly refurbished and the bathroom in particular felt quite luxurious. The spa facilities are fine, my massage treatment was good. The staff were friendly. I would come back.

My friend and I stayed here on the 9th of October as part of a spa break. Upon arrival the hotel doesn't look very appealing but bare with it. We both had a 30 minute treatment in the Spa and Gemma was fantastic. Not only was she extremely professional but she was friendly and gave us the information about the hotel that reception failed to tell us. Gemma also comfortably recommended things for us to do in the surrounding areas. I live in Edinburgh and would now consider this spa for any treatments due to the service that we received.

Our dinner was included in the package and we chose to eat in the hotel's restaurant. We were lucky enough to be served by James. He was spectacular. Exactly what you want from a waiter; knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. The hotel itself wasn't much to write home about. Basic room (but with a huge telly) and it seemed clean enough. We were slightly disturbed that our room had an interconnecting door and we did not have the key to lock it. The beds are tiny but we were so relaxed from our massages and swim that this didn't matter. The staff in the leisure centre are also very nice.

Breakfast was average at best. The bacon looked unappealing and there was very little fresh fruit available but on the plus side the staff replenished the food quickly.

To sum up, the service in this hotel (perhaps not the reception team) is 5*. Both myself and my friend have worked in the hospitality industry for over a decade and are therefore very critical but we were blown away! I would recommend the restaurant and spa to anyone!

Room Tip: Twin beds are tiny, book a double and make do!

Una at reception and James at Monty's were great, but the hotel was extremely tired and the bathroom hadn't been cleaned. The toilet was filthy and there was hair from someone shaving in the sink. The people in the room next door partied all night. The bar staff were not very friendly and the 'cocktails' were not great. leisure facilities were in need of a refurbishment. The breakfast buffet was not replenished and we had to ask for a lot of things. It was not a great breakfast all in all.

We booked this through Laterooms and were very pleasantly surprised when we arrived. From the road it looks like a golf club, but the hotel itself was lovely.
The staff were very pleasant and helpful, in the reception, restaurant and the leisure facilities. Everyone was lovely, especially James in the restaurant in the evening and at breakfast. He showed a very high standard of customer service and was very knowledgeable about the foods and wine list.
The bedroom was very clean, spacious and had a nice feeling. The bathroom seemed very new, shower not the most powerful though. A decent hairdryer was in the room, a lovely change from the travel editions in so many hotels!
The leisure facilities had a decent sized pool for swimming, sauna and steam room, not the best we have been in but functional and clean. Nice hot Jacuzzi too. Changing rooms were nice, excellent showers!
We stayed for dinner in the hotel restaurant as an excellent choice offered at good prices. We were not disappointed, need to come back to try other things on the menu.
Breakfast was a buffet, usual selection constantly replenished.
Will definitely be back.

Room Tip: Our room was above the leisure building roof, so no actual view but very private. Not sure if there...

We had a fantastic stay at the Windlestrae hotel, our room was large and comfortable, all staff were very friendly and the breakfast offered lots of choice.
We used the pool and gym daily and enjoyed daily walks along the heritage trail located from the gardens.
The location was very quiet and there was no noise during the night.
The bathroom was lovely and we had a large bath in ours.
We were given a lovely anniversary card on arrival and thought it was a nice personal touch, we wish we had booked for another couple of nights as we didnt want to leave.
Fantastic for cycling and the bikes are around £12.50 to hire, better to take your own.
The heritage trail is located through a grey fence in the gardens, you need to cross over a section of the golf course to locate the path, there is no signage so we had to ask the locals, well worth the walk or cycle.
We have found a place we really love and will be back again.

Room Tip: We had a room which overlooked the club house, some rooms look into private houses.

Have just returned from this hotel after spending the weekend there with our family to celebrate our Ruby Wedding Anniversary. The accommodation and food was excellent. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. We had booked our dinner at the Green Hotel and the whole evening was excellent, the food was superb the staff looked after us so well and even took time to entertain the children in our party. Overall we had a fab time her and would definitely return. So a big thanks to all staff at both hotels.

My friend treated me to a spa break which included dinner, breakfast, lunch & 75 min massage. First impression of Hotel is that it's a bit tired looking. However, rooms have been renovated and are lovely. Dinner was delicious, James the waiter was very attentive. Went for a swim in the evening and morning. Nice modern, clean changing room with excellent individual showers. Massage was fantastic. Staff very friendly and helpful. I would definately come back here again. Only downside is twin room beds are only a couple of inches apart!!
