“Spa Day”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

Received a spa day and overnight for a birthday treat. Entrance to hotel was badly flooded on our arrival, when we asked about this we were told it was always like that and we would "just have to paddle". Pool and spa areas were a bit sad, changing area had three lights out and was a bit smelly. My daughter also managed to slip and get one of her feet stuck in the drains. The member of staff Angus apologised and said they should have been screwed down, he would see to it. However on our departure they remained unsecured. This area definitely needed upgrading and did not live up to our expectations.

Had a two day stay at this lovely hotel which is part of a resort group in Kinross, the hotel was clean, warm and welcoming, the staff went out of their way to help.

Our room was big with a large flat screen TV and lots of furniture including 2 arm chairs and a table which is very rare these days, although it was a little dated; the bathroom was clean.

The pool and spa were also clean and warm, but having to go out to the entrance and enter the pool was a little bizarre, would be better if a door from inside the hotel could be made for guests.

Breakfast was superb and Anne and her staff looked after us well, we ate in the restaurant and in Jocks Bar over the road and both were very good, both in quality and value for money.

I would definitely recommend a visit to the Windlestrae

Room Tip: Ask for the best in the house 😉

Given as a present a Two night stay dinner bed and breakfast package...WELL HERE WE GO!

The first impression was the exterior of the building from the reception entrance is drab with moss not cleaned from the tiles, coupled with an overflowing drain that was like a swimming pool adjacent to the disability ramp and disabled parking bays. The entrance lacks the welcome of a hotel, more like a dated social club!
In reception area the windows needed cleaned and the woodwork painted/varnished. Behind the reception desk the view of the large office is so baron and dated.
Bedroom 305 - Window needed cleaned, curtains were old and limp. The full length mirror hadnt been cleaned as an initial was written in the dust. The view from the bedroom was onto a flat roof and the guttering had not been cleaned of moss or cigarrete ends. Other persons alcohol bottles had been put out their room window and left on the roof.
The furniture in the bedroom well it certainly wasn't Chippendale but was indeed scarred with chips, scrathes and so old it should it should be pensioned.
The light on the dressing table mirror did not work. The trouser press was not fixed to a wall it had been placed at an angle ready to fall onto someones feet.
The bedroom walls were dirty with scuff marks, a bit of effort with a damp cloth and these would be gone.
The archway from the bathroom to the bedroom the plaster was coming away leaving holes. Bathroom had carpet on the sink kickboard also carpet fully covered the bath frontage the carpet had mildew running from the shower side as the curtain didnt stop the water from running over the side and staining. The knocking noise from the bathroom pipes evry time the wc was flushed was intolerable.
The royal blue stair carpet from the reception to the bedrooms had severe wear that it was thread bare in places. Also the carpet from reception to restaurant at the stairs was worn very badly that it was bald.

Restaurant - asked for a glass of champagne or something sparkly - The member of staff went away and came back to state that they didnt do glasses only bottles.

Asked for no tomato or side salad with meal - came back with a heap of salad covering the meal.

Was moved to another room on the second day and a £20 quid refund - the creaks from the floor boards in the hallway and room were that out of a Hitchcock movie.

My husband and I stayed here recently for one night on a "daily deal coupon" and thought the value was excellent. It included dinner, bed & breakfast and a half hour massage each. Our room, while could be doing with upgrading, was very spacious, clean and comfortable. We visited the pool which we found to be an excellent size (have been in other hotels where the pool is less than half the size) and used the jacuzzi and steam room. Our massages were excellent, staff very friendly and lovely surroundings. We ate our dinner and breakfast in Monty's where the food was excellent and very enjoyable. All staff we came across were friendly, helpful and attentive and we wouldn't hesitate to go back if we got the same deal again.

Well I feel compelled to write this review after just having just read a negative one about a ' very disappointing experience' in one persons opinion.
Since my husband and I have booked in for our fourth time I fell qualified to say that it is a good hotel , clean, friendly and with good standards. I would also add that we have stayed in many hotels worldwide and that we know what constitutes a nice hotel! I cannot believe that people would be so petty as to moan about the carpet pattern. How shallow!
Food -both restaurant and bar meals are of a high standard. , especially the fillet and sirloin steaks. Breakfast is excellent always.
Room cleanliness is good ( only the slight smell of urine in bathroom of room 303 would prevent my saying cleanliness excellent. Comfortable bed and a generally relaxing friendly ambience about this hotel overall.
You wouldn't be disappointed with your stay at the Windlestrae.

We stayed here for 2 nights with my 4 year old son. The room was a good size, and had a good t.v and tea and coffee facilities. The room was very cosy. The bathroom was fine. We ate in Montys Restaurant both evenings. We didn't realise at the time that it was buy one get one free on adult meals, and also kids ate free. The food was of very high standard, as was the service. We stayed at the Hotel through "itison" It was fantastic value for money. My husband and I both got a beauty treatment included (1/2 hour) which was very good, and a bottle of wine on arrival. The leisure facilities were great. My son loved it! Breakfast in the mornings was buffet, and was of very good quality. Better than I have had in one particular 5 star hotel in Scotland. All in all a great short break, all staff were very helpful.

Second time at the windlestrae and still excellent. Great value restaurant and leisure facilities and HUGE breakfast included in price. Would recommend to anyone looking for a great value break. Would have played golf also if not for the crappy weather!
