“Fantastic Stay!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 22, 2012

My partner and I recently enjoyed a wonderful 2 night break at the windlestrae hotel. We booked 2 nights BB for £124.00. We were greeted by the friendly staff who explained all of the hotels facilities and times for breakfast/dinner ect. Our room was very big, with a 4 piece bathroom, double bed, sofa and plenty of cupboard space. The room was very clean as was the rest of the hotel. The windlestrae has a sister hotel across the road (the green hotel) which was 4 star instead of 3 and had 3 of the hotels 5 restaurants. For a 3 star hotel the windlestrae had fantastic facilities. We used the swimming pool several times throughout our stay (facilities included in price). The pool was lovely, very clean heated. Also a steam room/sauna/Jacuzzi/gym. There is a bar on site as well as 'Montys', an Italian restaurant. We eat there both nights and thoroughly enjoyed the well priced food. We had lunch in jocks bar across at the green hotel with was again very nice and cheap. We could not fault the staff everyone was so friendly. There is not a lot to do in Kinross however if you are after a quiet weekend away then I would thoroughly recommend the windlestrae.

We booked this through itison.com £89 for 2 people for 2 nights b&b plus massage. Bargain.

This hotel is old fashioned, the stairway up to rooms is in need of a paint & also the carpets are shabby. We had a very large room old fashioned brown furniture but it was in good condition, tv in room. The hotel is roasting we kept our window open the whole time, we had really bad squeeky floorboards in our room!!

Impressed with the gym, swimming pool is great but the sauna & steam room are in need of maintenance. Great showers in the changing rooms. There was also toning tables & sun bed but we never used these. Hotel provides towels for using the swimming pool, great idea.

Breakfast in the morning was a choice of hot food or cereal, fruit, yoghurts etc bread was like it had been frozen but was fine for toasting.
Tea in the hotel was not good. 20 minutes for someone to take our order! Then the food we got was not good at all. On a plus side The Green Hotel across the road serves amazing food.

The massage was brilliant, very relaxing room & very up to date decor.

I would not pay full price for this hotel. Never had much to do with the staff but 1 lady should not go around humming while we are eating breakfast & tea, very annoying.

Sad room, needing updated, public areas better, food good first night, less so second, maybe it depends on the chef on duty. Don't get your hopes up. Whenever I stay in this country, it makes me realise why I holiday abroad.

Lovely hotel in beautiful Kinross. Lovely main welcoming reception and friendly staff. Great leisure facilities and renovated treatments room which were first class and very relaxing.
The food is excellent dinner was good and they recommend the green hotel across the road for excellent lunches.
The rooms I think are in process of being upgraded some are light furniture and others are dark and bit dated but very clean and comfortable beds.
The breakfast was plentiful with help yourself to buffet and new toaster just delivered when I was there in September which you help yourself to fresh bread and pop in the super fast industrial toaster. Welcoming hotel, helpful staff and would go again.

As an ex resident of the area I had heard the hotel had been extended and 'done up' so looked forward to seeing it - was disappointed with the actual hotel, it was very dated and needed decorated inside and out, not what I expected at all. Opened the windows in the bedroom only to shut them immediately - covered in spiders webs with massive spiders everywhere and two in the room, not making for comfortable sleeping! On the plus side we had dinner in Montys and it was absolutely fabulous, one of the nicest meals I've had in a long time and at a reasonable price. The service was great and the staff were very pleasant both at dinner and breakfast. A lick of paint and a bit of modernisation and I would be back!

Beautifil situated hotel which enables you to go out in the country side, play golf, visit Edinburgh, take a tour in the country side, to go fishing in the famous River Tweed, visit a distillery and so. Rooms are a bit old fashioned but ok, bathroom needs to be rebuild. The breakkfast is great, dinner is of poor quality. Swimmimg pool and sauna are very refreshing at the end of the day. Staf is very friendly.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with two separate beds when travelling with friends because most rooms have one kings...
