Owner description: Set on the southern shore of the loch, RSPB Scotland Loch Leven nature reserve offers a great day out for families, nature lovers and wildlife watchers alike. Formerly known as Vane Farm, the RSPB bought the reserve in 1967 as a centre for environmental education and it is still a fantastic place for children to explore and discover nature today. Visitors can climb the trail through the woodland to the top of Vane Hill for a spectacular view over the Kinross-shire hills and countryside, or meander down to the wetland trail where three hides allow people to get really close to nature. In the summer, ospreys fish on the loch, and in the winter, thousands of pink-footed geese, swans and ducks make the reserve their home.
Useful Information: Wheelchair access, Bathroom facilities, Food available for purchase, Activities for young children, Activities for older children

At first I did wonder why the charged an entry fee of £5 but having now spent a fantastic few hours here I can see why - majority of paths well maintained and the hides are very clean & well maintained. All the staff were very friendly and took obvious delight in telling us which birds were on the site & what we could see. They also recommended the hill top walk, not for elderly people due to the steepness but once we got to the top, took around 30 minutes, the views over loch leven and the south were brilliant. There is a well stocked cafe which is very welcome after been out in the cold, all profits go to the rspb.
If you enjoy the outdoors & bird watching this is the place for you. I can guarantee that even if you only pop into the cafe you will soon be looking through the telescopes & binoculars at the loch and wildlife

If you enjoy bird-watching you will enjoy Vane Farm reserve. On a good day there are many types of birds there. You will get the best views from the hides along the loch. We saw a swan nesting and many others.

I got a few photos, all taken with a 250 mm zoom lens. It was not big enough. Need a 500mm at least!

Go there on a good day and enjoy it.

Popped in while passing and had pot of tea (£1.50) and pecan maple slice (£1.80) which was yummy. The lady behind the counter didn't know what was in it, but otherwise service was good. Wide selection of food at good prices and profit goes to RSPB

Having recently moved to the Loch Leven area after buying a new house we wanted to get out and about and with all our work encouraging birds into our garden had an idea that we needed bird boxes and some advice to try and get more birds into our garden. We passed the RSPB many a time on our way to and from work so decided that we needed some help to encourage new residents into our garden and ended up with a great enthusiasm to try and give our garden birds the right way to attract them The RSPB at Vane farm gave us every help in getting our garden set up for new visitors. The staff are excellent in giving advice and there is a very busy calendar for all the events at Vane Farm. My other half will be enrolling on a photography course to make the best use of her camera. Also the café is excellent value for the home made meals and drinks that are available. Also there is an opportunity to use the telescopes to get sight of the birds and the education goes on in the form of books, information from the staff and general help including nailing boots to trees to encourage bird boxes. Bird boxes are good value for money and very sturdy. A nesting box for swallows was about £10. All are good quality and value for money!

Stopped here from the m90 rather than go to the services. Very good parking free and not far off the road. Lovely setting, raised position with lovely views of the loch through large windows. Binoculars are set up again for free use, and its a lovely spot. Very good coffee, cakes and light lunches, very good prices, and staff are very welcoming. Toilets are OK, just aren't only for cafe users, but for everyone using the site. Only downside is maybe don't use the cafe if you have a tight timescale to keep to as it always seems very laid back about the time it takes to take/get your order. Only ever seen one person serving, and they,re very pleasant, but have to to it all them self. There is a ramp access round the back of the cafe, so wheelchair access if you go through the courtyard bit.outside tables lovely when sunny.
