We greatly enjoyed our Sunday afternoon lunch in the restaurant. The standard of service throughout our visit was first class. We were asked if we wished a drink in the lounge first, but declined and went straight into the dining room. With about 40 covers it is not too large, well furnished and lit. After being served our wine we asked the waitress if we could order mains from the standard lunch menu and desserts from the fixed price menu. This was no problem. My wife ordered the haddock and I went for the steak ciabatta. Both came as a large portion with jumbo hand cut chips. Vegetables accompanied the fish, while a dressed side salad came with the steak.
We both thoroughly enjoyed our mains and my steak was smothered with delicious onions. The quantity of chips defeated us, but we finished the fish & meat. We had ordered our desserts earlier, so they soon arrived. My wife found her panna cotta a bit too dense and would have preferred a lighter touch to the dish with less gelatin. My chocolate tart with ice cream (served in a brandy basket) was standard, as expected and enjoyable. Difficult to tell if the desserts are made in house, or not.
Another pleasant touch was our waitress took our order for coffee when serving the desserts, so there was again no delay in these arriving.
In conclusion, we had a thoroughly enjoyable experience in excellent surroundings with only a niggle about the desserts.
