“Fantastic day out around the Orkneys”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 3, 2013

Kinlay was a superb guide, well organised and extremely knowledgeable, welcoming and friendly. He answered all our many questions with much patience! We had a fabulous day out with him on his private, bespoke tour, which was designed according to our needs. Everything ran really smoothly and we came away with a much better understanding of the history of the islands. I would definitely recommend Orkney Uncovered for anyone going to the Orkneys.

“Superb Tour!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 22, 2013

We love Orkney Uncovered they are a superior tour company who offers that little bit extra for their clients. We found out about Orkney Uncovered on Facebook and saw some spectacular pictures.

We visted their website which was stunning with amazing photos of the delights Orkney has to offer. Enquiring about tour availability was easy and Orkney uncovered responded to us within the hour.

We had a private tour of a number of areas within Orkney. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to St Magus Cathedral and the Italian Chapel but to name a few.

Our guide Kinlay is an expert in making Orkney's history come alive and be interactive. We had a great time exploring Wideford Hill, Churchill Barriers and Hoxa Head. Some fantastic scenic views, plus we manged to dodge some of the heavy rain showers which made the Orkney experience even better.

We certainly look forwardto coming back to Orkney in the future and we will definately be using Orkney Uncovered services again.

“Brilliant day trip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 21, 2013

We only had a 1 day stop at Orkney on our cruise in May, so I wanted to be sure we'd see as much as possible. And we certainly did. The cruise tours were all only half days, but we got to spend a full 7 hours with Kinlay on a bespoke tour. It was definitely a day to remember. Thank you, and apologies for the belated review :-)

“Orkney WWII Tour!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 17, 2013

We booked Orkney Uncovered for our private tour of Orkney. Kinlay and Kirsty the husband and wife team gave us a brilliant tour itinerary which encompassed our interests.

Our main interest was in Orkney's wartime history especially World War Two. We visited the Churchill Barriers, Italian Chapel, an airfield called HMS Sparrowhawk. We were given an amazing overview of what actually happened to HMS Royal Oak on the early hours of the 14th October 1939 when she was torpedoed by U-47. Our guide Kinlay is so passionate about the wartime history and it really does show, we were immersed by his knowledge and stories of the personnel based in Orkney.

We will definitely be back up next year to go on more Orkney Uncovered tours and discover WWI and Scapa Flow. Finally Kinlay and Kirsty kept us to date with weather reports, getting to Orkney, hotels and much more.

Excellent tour company who go out there way to make your tour experience a memorable one!

Hi Julie,

Many thanks for your review. We are very pleased you had a great day visiting Orkney's WWII sites and structures. Remnant of former RNAS Hatston can still be seen to this day and its good that you enjoyed your guided tour around the old runways and buildings of HMS Sparrowhawk.

Thank you for booking with Orkney Uncovered and we look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

Best regards,

Kinlay

“Excellent tour of Scapa Flow!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 16, 2013

We booked Orkney Uncovered to visit the wonderful Scapa Flow sites and structures and to find out about Orkney's wartime history.

Our guide Kinlay gave us an amazing insight into the World's second largest natural harbour. From the 1500's to WWI, WWII and present day.

We loved hearing about all the German warships interned at Scapa Flow at the end of WWI and their subsequent fate. Kinlay took us around some rather large and powerful looking gun batteries in the South of Orkney.

We had a full overview of the building of the Churchill Barrier including Balfour Beatty's camp and rockworks, to the building of the Italian Chapel by the Italian POWs.

Finally we visited several scenic locations to get a good look at Scapa Flow, out favourite that Kinlay showed us was Hobbister Moor.

Thoroughly enjoyed our tour with Orkney Uncovered and we will be back soon, to uncover more of Orkney!
