We booked a bespoke tour of Orkney's mainland with Orkney Uncovered. Having been on a few coach tours in the past, I can truly say that I will never go back to boring coach tours. Kinlay our guide from Orkney Uncovered gave us a brilliant tour of the Orkney's. We were treated to a really great scenic / coasts and crafts tour. We even visited the World famous Sheila Fleet jewellery and met with Sheila and her son.

Kinlay was amazingly organised and gave us cool bottled water, along with a variety of Orkney shortbread biscuits and Orkney fudge!

One other thing I like about Orkney Uncovered is that they take the time to respond to their customers reviews on an individual basis on Trip Advisor.

The weather was warm sunshine with the occassional break of light rain, a great way to cool down. We finished our tour with a trip up to Wideford Hill and enjoyed Kinlay showing us the spectacular 360 degree views of Orkney.

Top Class Tour Company!!

Dear Douglas,

Thank you very much for your review I am very pleased you thoroughly enjoyed your private tour. I am glad you enjoyed meeting Sheila at Sheila Fleet Jewellery, I do think that if you are interested in fine jewellery and would like to see how it is actually made then go there. This is one of my most popular destinations on my coasts and crafts tour.

It just goes to show that you can often see so much more by private vehicle than being herded about on a coach so I am happy that you preferred this option.

Finally I find that if someone takes the time to write Orkney Uncovered a review it is good manners and polite to respond, so thank you for your saying that.

We look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

Kind regards,

Kinlay

We booked a full day's private tour with Orkney Uncovered. Mainly to see the vast amount of Wartime Sites and Structures from Scapa Flow WW1 and WW2.

First and foremost we had a plan put together by Kinlay and Kirsty Francis who asked about our wartime interests and out together a legendary tour plan. One of the most exciting parts of the day was climbing through an old gun battery from WW2 and seeing the amazing and powerful Scapa Flow in the background. Kinlay showed us a number of Kreigsmarine and Luftwaffe aerial photos from WW2 and explained thoroughly about the fateful sinking of HMS Royal Oak.

We really enjoyed the story of the Italian prisoners of war and their Italian Chapel. The Churchill Barriers are spectacular beautiful beaches amongst a number of WW1 sunken vessels. Our guide Kinlay is an expert Orkney's Wartime/Scapa Flow history and we loved visiting sites that people rarely visit if at all. Combined with the sites and Kinlay's amazing knowledge we had a truly fantastic day.

We will definitely be back and do more 'Orkney Uncovering'. Go with Orkney Uncovered for your tour they are brilliant.

Dear John,

Thank you very much for your excellent review and for booking your private tour with Orkney Uncovered. After you mentioned the U-47 and the entrances into Scapa Flow I was so pleased I could show you the Kreigsmarine documents and aerial photography.

It was great that we managed to see the bulk of the WWI blockships at low tide, this certainly added to the story of the Eastern Approaches to Scapa Flow.

We look forward to welcoming you back to Orkney.

Kind regards,

Kinlay

We had such a good time with Orkney Uncovered last year that we decided to return this year, partly to enjoy going back over some familiar ground and partly to explore some new. Kinlay is a leader in the field: passionate about his subject and with so much knowledge at his fingertips, yet he knows how to remain in the background so as to allow the objects and the landscape to speak for themselves. You'd be hard pressed to find a guide more committed, enthusiastic and professional as Kinlay Francis. And yes, we'll be back for more!

We booked Orkney Uncovered for a full day private tour while visiting Orkney. We chose to go for a tour that covers the best Orkney has to offer in one day. Kinlay our guide was amazing and was so passionate about Orkney. We visited all the sites including Skara Brae. Ring of Brodgar, Scapa Flow, St Magnus Cathedral, Wideford Hill, Kitcheners Memorial, Cliffs of Yesnaby etc etc. We even tried some local foods and Orkney Wine which was an interesting change to the usual wines you buy.

Every part of our day was expertly arranged with Kinlay and Kirsty from Orkney Uncovered. We even got our own tailored tour itineraries on the day. Kinlay also provided us with Evian water and some delcious tasting Orkney snacks, shortbread and fudge.

Finally dont believe these rubbish BBC Weather reports you see about Orkney. The weather was 24oc and beautiful sunshine!

Highly recommend Orkney Uncovered, one tip to book in advance as they are very popular!

Six of us from a cruise ship booked a day tour in Kirkwall Scotland in the Orkney Islands. Our tour guide was Kinlay Francis – (orkneyuncovered.co.uk). Kinlay made sure that we saw many interesting sights including the ruins of the Neolithic village at Skara Brae, a furnished mansion nearby, standing stones that predate Stonehenge as well as the WWII British fleet anchorage at Scapa Flow along with the Churchill Barriers and Italian POW chapel. Also we had a nice lunch at a local inn. Kinlay was most knowledgeable in all facets of Scottish history especially regarding the Orkney Islands. We thoroughly enjoyed our day and I would recommend him highly.

Many thanks for the excellent review. We greatly appreciate the feedback. I am glad you had a great days touring on Orkney. There is so much to see in Orkney and I am glad I could show you round Skara Brae and Skaill House.

I am glad you enjoyed your lunch at the Standing Stones Hotel, I remember that the coconut and sweet potato soup was excellent. We hope that you enjoyed the rest of your cruise on the delightful Prinsendam and we would welcome you back to Orkney in the future.

Kind regards,

Kinlay and Kirsty Francis
