Highland Park whisky has been my husbands favorite ever since we visited the distillery 14 years ago. So we went in for a second visit. My husband did the Magnus Eunson tour and I could join him on the normal Viking Soul tour (I don't drink at all). The tour was almost private and very enjoyable. The only thing we didn't like was that it was the summer shut-down, so no production to view or smell. The tasting of 7 whiskies was very good and at a good pace. Really recommendable

Thank you for re-visiting us, after 14 years it was great to welcome you back! We're sorry the tour was slightly restricted but we have some important work going on behind the scenes to keep the whisky flowing!

This is my second time to the distillery. One of the few distilleries still keeps malting on-site. Staffs always nice and very helpful.

Learnt a lot about process from the operators and very valuable knowledge obtained.

Special mention about Erik the production leader and James!

Our visit was spontaneous, and as a small group we were very lucky to get a tour and fully experience not only the great whiskies and history of their making, but the beautiful old court yard, buildings and environment composing Highland Park Distillery. Our guide was most informative, willing to answer all questions and had a healthy sense of humour. Didn’t buy the whiskey ( luggage already over limit,) but certainly treasure our new whiskey glasses and memories of a great afternoon.

Arranged by Kinlay Francis, Orkney Uncovered, the tour and tasting experience at Highland Park was extraordinary. The staff, especially Pat, gave us such insight into the entire process of producing such an exquisite single malt Scotch. But they actually have a broad wave of single malts to suit any Scotch lover's taste. If you visit the Orkney islands and Kirkwall, a tour of Highland Park distillery is a must.

It’s ok if your on the tour but if you are the one left in the shop whilst your other half has the tour you have nothing to do for an hour plus. No cafe, no coffee or cake, hard seats and poor phone reception.

This is a visitor centre built for tours only not drivers!

Anyhow malting floor is a highlight of this distillery so I’m told.

We're sorry you didn't enjoy waiting while your partner had a tour of the distillery. We do offer a drivers kit for £4, this allows you to take part in the tour and take your taster drams away with you and this should have been offered to you as an option. I'm sorry we don't have the facilities for a cafe as this is a working distillery, but we do have free wifi for any waiting guests to use.

Whether you are a whiskey lover or not, this tour is fantastic! It's like going back in time to a piece of Orkney's past. The buildings are gorgeous and well preserved. Seeing the malting building and malting floor was a treat, especially since we were lucky enough to witness the process. We were very lucky to have a guide that clearly loves and respects the Highland Park distillery experience-James was fantastic. The tour was based not only on the whiskey, but also on the distillery's place in history. We touched the peat, felt the hot air from the ovens and at the end, sampled the wares. I was the designated driver for the group and was provided my very own "driver kit" of whiskey samples to take home and enjoy in the evening. We all went home with our very own glass, a book, and a certificate (check the tour descriptions for specifics). For some members of our group, this tour was a destination tour as they have been Highland Park Whiskey fans for a long time. Thanks to Charlotte for helping us book the tour so it would fit in our itinerary. What fun! Highly recommend this tour. Be sure to book in advance, as recommended on their website.

Thank you so much for leaving such a great review. We love to receive positive feedback and it's useful to know that the driver's kit was a success and what aspects of the tour you enjoyed. We'll share this with James and Charlotte so they get the recognition they deserve!

Highland Park is perhaps one of the best know Scotch available in Canada. Going from Glasgow to Orkney via a minivan along countless one track roads is not a holiday as much as a spiritual pilgrimage. Being somewhat of a pessimist I had rather low expectations. However I was more than impressed. It is one of few distilleries that still malt some of their own barley, so you are able to see the entire process right up to bottling. Kate our guide was great, knew most of what we needed to hear but found answers to what she did not know. The actual facility is just where you would want your scotch to come from and the sample of their 18 year old sealed the deal.

Thank you so much for visiting and writing a great review, I'll make sure this is passed on to Kate. What better way to end a pilgrimage than with a Highland Park 18yo!

Great Tour of the distillery and samples. We were able to keep our class. Our tour guide knew his stuff and made the tour quite interesting. Highly recommend a visit to this distillery when in Kirkwall.

We visited the Highland Park distillery and found original buildings, set high above the town of Kirkwall. The staff were friendly and helpful. If you've done distillery tours you know the process of making whisky is roughly the same everywhere. However, Highland Park still malts 20% of their barley by hand - the old fashioned way, on a malting floor. They dry the barley with ancient kilns that burn Hobbiton peat (a sweet, heather peat) that gives it a much more subtle flavor than say a Tallisker. The wort is still fermented in oaken drums. What a blast we had on this tour. Also, this is a great value. Ten pounds gets you the tour, two tastings, and a souvenir spey glass. Compare that to Balvenie where you have to pay fifty pounds to take the tour, and most likely they will be mean to you along the way.

it's hard to rate a place when you can't see it without a reservation so i''ll give it 4 stars. the buildings are really pretty. we paid a legit fee to get a free glass and one tasting and a 5 minute video. it was a reasonable plan b that we appreciated, but w/ the parking lot empty and no signs of others, i'm not sure how restricted they needed to be.

Thank you so much for visiting us here at Highland Park Distillery. I'm sorry you were unable to take a tour when you arrived but without knowing the exact circumstances I can only assume we were extremely busy that day. We recommend booking during the peak season to avoid any disappointment. We often get large groups visit us, especially from the many cruise ships that dock in Orkney but try our very best to accommodate everyone and I do hope the small tasting was a small compensation for not being able to accommodate a full tour. We very much appreciate your feedback and will note it for the future.
