The reception staff were very efficient and pleasant when I was checking-in. One of the ladies even offered to carry my bag to the room - equality exists!!!

The bedroom was very tastefully decorated and was well furnished. There was a work area, another small table which could be used under the wall mounted LCD television and a small coffee table in the room. There was an armchair and a sofa in addition to the double bed which was very comfortable. Tea / coffee making facilities are provided, along with a complimentary bottle of water and a pack of biscuits. The wardrobe contained an ironing board and iron also.

The bathroom is well laid out, but the shower head is ceiling mounted and, as such, there is no facility for washing or rinsing hair if you are not showering, unless you use a glass above the sink..

A quick evening meal was had in the bar downstairs - a very good choice and quick service with a tasty curry. A range of real beers were supplemented by other draught and bottled beers, as well as a well stocked spirit section.

Breakfast was served efficiently with a selection of hot cooked foods supplemented by cold meats, cereals, fruit juices, fresh fruit and yoghourts. Tea / coffee / toast was served at the table.

There us free wi-fi for residents and the passcode is on the keycard holder - good service available.

I would definitely recommend this if staying in Kirkwall.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the front of the hotel. Smokers from the bar stood outside and you could he...

I stay here for business semi-regularly and find it a very pleasant place to stay. The rooms are nicely decorated and very clean. The staff will also go above and beyond for you. The only thing that lets the place down is the limited choice for breakfast. Otherwise, a great place to stay!

The exterior spells old. The interior is tastefully decorated to modern standards without being overbearing.
My room was clean, airy with a lovely comfy bed, nice surroundings, spacious bathroom and good shower. ... only suffering from varied pulsating water pressure, which given it was a room in the eaves I guess due to a pump ..... can't be helped given the location.
Breakfast is good enough, and the staff are attentive and very polite, but be aware of you speak super fast or have a strong accent (like my Aussi friend) you may not be understood first time given the staff I encountered seemed to be eastern European.
The bar bext door is olde worlde with a fine selection of whiskeys. ... again a european barmaid who struggled at times understanding accented people, but who was very pleasant, worked hard and was evidently a bit overwhelmed with quantity if punters ..... therefore service was a bit on the painfully slow side. She really could do with someone to assist her in busy times.

There is free Wifi in the hotel, but you do need to ask reception for the password.

This is a pleasant small hotel on lovely islands, and given it's location, I would say lives up to the room rate. The decor and moderness of my room surpassed my expectations to be honest given the exterior obvious age if the building, hence I have rated it above average.

Very clean, modern and well appointed for the price...only downside was the room we stayed in (206) was very noisy. Slept with the window open and could hear all the 'pub crawlers' at 3am in the morning....when the pub in the hotel seemed to close...particularly unpleasant!

Breakfast was very good...waiters just a little unfriendly...reception and check in staff were very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Something far away from the pub!

Stayed two nights at this hotel. The receptionist and restaurant staff are some of the nicest I have ever encountered. The room was very comfortable--lots of space and a great bathroom. But the best thing about this hotel is the people. They could not do enough for us. We ate in the bar lounge and the food was very good. Modern hotel in an old building. I recommend it hightly.

We arrived here and walked into a small reception and was shown into what was a tardis. The room was beautiful very contemporary with a lovely modern bathroom. There is a lounge bar and restaurant which we had dinner in every night, very good pub food. Then there is the Bofey bar which is an oldie pub which is used by the locals with a good section of single malts. They also had a fiddle player on sunday evening. The only thing on the down side was it was very quite ate dinner on our own 2 nights and breakfast alone once but still got great service.
