I was in Orkney to work within the Health Service for a few days . The hotel was booked centrally for me . I arrived with my wife and we checked in . Immediately on seeing the " double " room I was dismayed . Tiny Dark Dingy and with a cubicle shower smaller than many fish tanks; peeling mouldy lining and as it transpired not even able to supply water for much of my stay -- let alone hot water . Returned to reception requesting a change of room -Nothing doing . Had I not been in a group and therefore tied to the hotel we would have left then -- If only .
The evening meal was it should be said ok but s- l--o ---w and 2 of our group did not get their maincourses until we had had dessert .
Next morning up for work -- No hot water so only a dicht under the cold tap . Reception less than helpful but " would get it sorted " The next day we still had no water from the shower and on challenging reception were told , " If you want a shower get up earlier cos there isn`t water for everyone -- first come first served " . Not even the hint of contrition or politeness .
I would have refused to pay the set rate for the room had I been paying but the organisers paid up against my wishes .
Orkney has much to offer but this is one place to avoid . TRY HOLLAND HOUSE B&B for the same money light years ahead in every way .
