“The Real Good Cafe!”

Good choice of food, from soups thru toasties and unusual locally scourced goodies. Everything is prepared on the premises with love and care, the quality shows in every dish, cheese melts to die for. Coffees, teas and chocolates all good too.
Oh, yes, quite rare these days, the service comes with a smile! All in all a happy experience twelve months a year.

It's tempting to eat every meal here when in Kirkwall - the cafe is right across the road from the cathedral and five minutes walk from the bus station, and equally appealing for breakfast, coffee and postcard writing, or an evening meal. It's not the cheapest in town but the quality of everything is lovely; it's pretty and cosy, the food's gorgeous, and the gift shop is well-stocked with high end local stuff. One minor gripe is the shaving foam-style "dry" cappuccinos but then they seem to be standard anywhere north of Loch Lomond.

“delicious soups!”
Reviewed January 28, 2014

We ate here twice, and enjoyed the soup both times. Atmosphere cosy and yet bright and the food seemed healthy and fresh - and tasty! Nice teas and coffees and cakes too! Great little shop to find your treasures and take home gifts too.

“Delicous Orkney oatcakes and cheese.”
Reviewed December 10, 2013

We ate here for lunch after our tour guide Kinlay from Orkney Uncovered recommended the local fare here. The service was excellent as was the food. We had soup to start followed by Orkney cheese and oatcakes with home made chutney.

Great light lunch and a great recommendation for a light lunch.

“cafe in gift shop in centre of Kirkwall”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

Café is excellent for lunch or a light evening meal. Home made soup with bere meal bread. This is an Orkney speciality made from an ancient barley which is still grown here. Sandwiches and quiches or hot dishes. Service friendly. Down side is that it is small and gets busy in summer. Gift shop has many unusual things. Beautiful knitwear which is quite expensive.
