stayed here for three days and found it to be clean and modern and well kept. the staff were friendly and helpful , the breakfast was good and the roast of the day was very good. we had no problems with noise , and it was a nice central location for everywhere on the island. there is plenty of room for parking also.

Stayed here one night too after getting the ferry from Shetland. Found it okay and room was good too.
Breakfast next morning only as got in too late to eat, well for me anyway.
Nice friendly service at reception and in the breakfast room.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms with a sea view as the one i was in had no real view to talk about.

We spent a week here as part of our Orkney Archaeology tour. It was a perfect choice. We took the ferry to St. Margaret's Hope and caught the bus to Kirkwall. The hotel was just around the corner. Our twin room was in the newish annex, all redone. Out side the main building, the annex is a warren of rooms with a lift to the second floor. Our room was large, overlooking the harbor. A large bathroom with plenty of hot water and heated towel rack was a nice extra. The tour included breakfast and dinner at the hotel.

Breakfasts were continental with ordered hot food. Evening meals included starter, main dish and desert. Great food and attentive staff in a comfortable setting. The owners and family work constantly to provide the best for their customers. By the end of our tour-week, they knew our preferences and greeted us like friends.

We hated to leave this convenient, comfortable place.

Room Tip: Try for one in annex overlooking the harbor.

I frequently stay at this hotel, the food, staff, bedrooms and ambiance are all first class.
Nothing is a bother to any member of staff, the decor is very modern, the standard is very high and the food is so fresh and tasty.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Kirkwall

The Ayre hotel overlooks the Bay of Kirkwall. It’s a short walk into town and convenient for touring the island - with easy access to the multiple sites to the west. There is ample parking.
Reception was very welcoming and our room was on the front overlooking the bay and the ferry docks. It was clean, comfortable and modern - from the comfortable mattress to the ensuite bathroom. We enjoyed draught local brews in the quite bar area.
Included breakfasts are very good with the usual buffet style cereals, fresh fruit, yogurts and a wide selection of freshly cooked hot food.
The staff is friendly and accommodating, even opening the breakfast buffet early anarranging a taxi for an early morning departure to the ferry.

Room Tip: A room in the front above the ground floor will offer a nice harbor view

My husband and I spent a week at the Ayre, and had a lovely stay. Our room was clean, well-kept, great harbor view. Breakfasts were varied, plentiful, and efficiently served. The dining room offerings were also varied and tasty. The location makes it easy to walk around downtown. Most important: the staff was friendly, welcoming, and made it clear that they loved their home and their jobs. They took their jobs seriously and took good care of us, all with warmth and a good sense of humor no matter the weather or the ups and downs of the day.

We stayed here for a week and found the hotel very good. The room, in the newer part of the hotel, was excellent with harbour views. The bedroom was a good size and the bathroom nice, clean and had plenty of towels. The staff were very professional and accommodating, whilst at the same time being friendly. There were a wide choice of options at breakfast. I would highly recommend this hotel. .

Room Tip: Ask for a harbour view room.
