We stayed at The Dog for the second time overnight on June 29. This is a typical English pub which does good food as well as a great range of real ales. Our room was cosy and comfortable, the bar welcoming and friendly and the grub just great. Breakfasts are huge - just the thing to set you up before tackling the nearby M6! An absolute MUST for the weary traveller seeking an overnight billet or a thirsty tourist wishing to wet their whistle!

We stayed with members of our classic car club for the Jubilee weekend at the beginning of June at the Dog Inn, booking 4 rooms and can honestly say that our stay there was excellent. The village the Dog Inn is situated in is lovely and the Inn has an interesting history. We were given a very warm welcome on arrival on the Friday evening and this continued throughout the weekend. The Inn was packed with a lively atmosphere and was like this all weekend. The rooms were also excellent, very comfortable and we had everything we needed. All our members staying had a wonderful time. One of members was over in the UK from Australia. On Saturday evening, we invited other memers and had a group meal in the restaurant, after trying the great beers and wines in the bar first. The food was just wonderful, much choice and the service was second to none. Nothing was too much trouble for the team on duty and we say a huge thank you to everyone. We believe the Beer Festival held there in August is well worth a visit! We look forward to returning in August and have already booked another 4 rooms for a long weekend. Very highly recommended.

Room Tip: This is the second time we have stayed at the Dog Inn and both rooms we have stayed in have been gre...

The wife and I stayed for 1 night in May this year as we needed to go to Tatton Park the next day, we arrived about 7pm on our motorbike, and were shown to our room, we had the largest one , No 1, but on Late rooms website it said limited availability ?? We were asked what time we would like breakfast and said about 9am, we went downstairs had a few drinks at the bar, listened to all the rich kids talking crap, saw a few Rolls Royce and Ferrari drive in and out of the car park, yes its a rich area, lol
We went to bed, but I didnt sleep well as my foot kept getting hit by something when I turned over in bed, quite painful to. Next morning we pulled the sheets back to find a 2 inch hole in the mattress and a broken spring sticking through, ouch !! We also noticed the P.A.T electrical stickers on ALL electrical items were 2 years out of date in the whole pub, not very reasuring, also no fire escape warnings on the back of the door.
We went downstairs about 8.30 to find we were the only people in the whole pub, NO STAFF ...no one, all the doors were locked exept for a fire door, but didnt want to open it in case it tripped an alarm, so I couldnt check my motorbike was still secure, the breakfast staff turned up at 8.55, when I mentioned the bed and P.A.T stickers when I was paying my bill, he just shrugged his shoulders and said thanks. We wont be going again.

My daughter was doing a Junior Zoo Keeper for the day at Wingham wildlife park (which I recommend) and this place was within walking distance (we were in the car, but we can still appreciate the closeness :-[)).
I was a bit worried about the visit after reading the reviews, however, we all loved it as soon as we saw it. We are here at the moment, the children are getting ready to go down for breakfast and I'm at a bit of a loose end (hence this post).
The rooms are lovely, very country cottage, the building is very pretty and the food we had for dinner was very nice. There were a couple of hiccups at dinner, however the serving staff covered the problems wonderfully and we were all kept happy. The cheese platter was really yummy, the blue cheese was absolutely spectacular.
This is not a glossy spa style hotel, this is a relaxed, comfortable, friendly, homely B&B/Inn/Hotel.
The dog inn is not perfect, but then neither are we.
Both myself, my daughter and her two friends thought that The dog inn was wonderful. We would 100% recommend it and we would like to return with my husband and son.
In fact I might buy a couple of nights for my parent-in-law's anniversary present.

Room Tip: If you are coming with children, let them know you need rooms close to each other

we stayed here on the weekend of the 10th September... location is excellent close to all the local amenities. we paid £60 for one night and i gather it is normally £80 night.this is reputedly a 4 star hotel.
i will start with the positives, the room was very large and generally clean it had tea coffee facilities good size bathroom good size TV fairly comfortable beds, and we overlooked the main road so had decent views, noise was not a problem in fact we had a decent nights sleep,
the staff were polite and generally OK check in was straight forward.
now the negatives.. the pub does not do justice to the rooms,it was dirty the stools chairs were thread bare,as it is down a country lane with a few houses scattered around i assume it will be used mainly by the locals who i would assume are fairly well off given the area if this is the case all i can say is,they are easily pleased the place is crying out to be refurbished there's a difference between quaint and dirty and this place should be a gold mine.we checked on the price of the food in the restaurant and found it to be very expensive for a starter and main for 2 it was going to cost over £40 they did not sell mild (beer) so we ventured into knutsford and had a two course meal each and drinks(i got my pint of mild) at a cost of approx £18 and it was excellent.we went down to the bar at about 7:30 to enjoy a drink and chat with the staff but found them totally uninterested so we had one drink and went back to our room. when we went down for breakfast the tables where all laid out with reserved labels on them the only person serving at the time was a young man in whites or should i say filthy blacks who we assumed was the cook, firstly he should not be serving the guests and secondly his white apron was absolutely filthy.there was some cereals laid out and that was it,i ordered a full English less the hash browns my wife ordered bacon and eggs on toast when i got my breakfast there was no black pudding the toast was cold we had to ask for butter the breakfast was generally cold and laid on my stomach most of the day my wifes breakfast was no better we are glad we did not have the evening meal the night before, the whole breakfast was totally disorganized and the food was of a very poor quality especially when you remember that this is supposed to be a 4 star establishment and normally costs £80 a night. in conclusion for one night and if you stayed in your room and declined the breakfast i might go back but i very much doubt it,when you consider the amount of times people compare like for like here and abroad i must say most 2 star hotels abroad are a better standard than this.
