Owner description: Located in 1,000 acres of beautiful deer park, the former Egerton family home is open for you to explore. You're welcome to uncover centuries of history at the Medieval Old Hall and witness life above and below stairs in the Mansion. Wander at leisure through 50 acres of award-winning Gardens and take the family to meet very special rare breed animals at our working Farm. You'll love stopping off in the Stableyard where you can sit back, eat, drink, browse and buy. With over 100 events a year it's the perfect day out! For nearly 400 years the estate was the property of the Egerton family until it was bequeathed to the National Trust in 1958. Today it is financed and maintained by Cheshire East Council.

Tatton House is in an excellent state of preservation. Paintings, marvellous furniture, family collections and rooms are all superb. The gardens are well laid out, the rose garden is beautiful and the greenhouses very interesting with a great display of tree ferns. The Egremonts who owned the house played an important part in local life and this is well described.

The house is owned by the National Trust, the park around it is owned by the local council. They charge a lot of money for entry to each attraction and on top of that they charge £5 parking. We took all our refreshments with us to ensure we didn't contribute any more to this council's excessive money spinning. Our entry to the house and garden was already paid for in our NT membership. The park is excellent for walking and entry on foot is free if you have time for a good walk.

Tatton House is well worth the effort to visit, but beware of extra charges.

Five pounds to park does seem very steep, especially when you also pay to enter the farm. The playground is great as it is very spacious and there are lots of different things for the kids to do. The farm is really nice for the little ones, we enjoyed watching the sheep racing and finding the doggies in the maize maze, you can feed the goats and the kids wore the flat caps for a photo opportunity. Lovely day out.

Went to show which was as always interesting as we like cars and the location. We were going to eat casually from one of the caterers but decided on the Stables restaurant. I had lamb with fresh vegetables a good selection. My husband had duck, both meals were gorgeous quality ingredients. It was very busy and the staff were efficient. For me the only thing that let it down was the tables and chairs they were unstable and wobbly every time I cut a potato slice I thought I was going to lose my plate! There we where eating a lovely meal but not relaxed as we threw it down us which was a shame. The place was packed with visitors so they must making good money in they have lots of events there . I don't think it would cost the earth for them to replace the furniture with something more stable. There are enough trees there to provide the materials!

Me an my husband decided to go to tatton park on a weekend we didn't have our children. As we had no money we thought this would be a lovely place to visit as we are national trust members. How wrong were we.
£5 entry even though it is owned by national trust!!! Ok it's not alot but on the national trust website it doesn't state this or we wouldn't of come this weekend. There is nothing worse than surprise charges. We were very annoyed an had to choose between a meal out an going here so we turned around an went to quarry bank mill (which was FREE and I will review). Very disappointed and will put me off bringing my children. PLEASE MAKE ALL CHARGES CLEAR

We are sorry to hear of your disappointment at the weekend regarding the car entry charge. This is referred to on Tatton's section on the NT website under the section facilities and access and is referred to in the NT handbook. Tatton Park is managed by Cheshire East Council and is not financially supported by the National Trust hence the charges. Regards

Tatton park is well worth a visit. On site there is a working farm with a variety of animals, there is a massive area of gardens including vegetable gardens, Japanese gardens, Italian gardens & many more. There is also the historical mansion to visit. There is plenty to do if you have children, an adventure playground, bike hire, den building etc. You can visit all three areas for a very reasonable entrance fee or just visit a single area for a smaller fee.
