“Drinks extortionate !”
Reviewed November 20, 2013 via mobile

Whilst the food/service and surroundings here are very nice we didn't stay over so can't comment on the rooms. The prices of drinks were ridiculous. We expected to pay a BIT more but £18 for a small white wine and a lager and £8 for a coke and a lager is ridiculous !

I'm pleased that you found our food, service and surroundings very nice but sorry you felt our bar tariff to be overpriced. I cannot comment on the prices you state as I do not know exactly what the drinks were, but generally our bar prices are competitive with other similar properties.

Kind regards

Overall a wonderful stay in a really nice hotel.
Pros: The service here was fantastic - I emailed in advance with a query and had a very prompt reply, and a complimentary room upgrade! Bar staff were very friendly and reception were very polite and helpful. The room was fabulous, bed was slightly firmer than I would prefer but the pillows were great and everything was spotless. There was plenty of storage space and hanging space. The room was very well equipped (hairdryer, iron and proper ironing board, bathrobes etc), and I was most impressed that for tea and coffee there was actual complimentary milk in the minibar instead of the horrible UHT stuff. There was also a large sofa, and a desk, as well as brochures with Cheshire attractions. The bathroom was excellent and the shower was powerful and consistent temperature - spot on. The turkish aroma light sensory steam room in the spa was amazing, I could have stayed in there for hours! We didn't eat an evening meal at the hotel but we had a drink in the bar which was very pleasant. Breakfast in the morning was a particular highlight, nice restaurant and a great selection of food.
Cons: The main reason for booking this particular hotel was for a very relaxing weekend to chill out in the middle of a stressful month. The website gives the impression that the spa experience will be very serene, but we hadn't realised quite how family-friendly the facilities are. Absolutely brilliant if you're staying with kids, but rather than the quiet rejuvenating experience we were hoping for, we got a crowded pool full of screaming toddlers. In fairness, I think the pool was adult-only after 7pm and we had to go earlier than that because we had dinner plans, so it may just have been our timing. However, the jacuzzi and outdoor hot tub were full, as were all the relaxation beds, so if you are planning to visit the hotel specifically for the spa facilities it might be best to check with the spa reception to find out their quietest times, and go then.
The only other downside was that taxis to and from Knutsford seem quite pricey (£7-£10) for a 1.5 mile journey. We ended up walking back to the hotel after our meal out as at 11.30pm at night we tried 4 different taxi companies and none had any taxis available. I wouldn't recommend this as there is no street lighting once you get out onto Manchester Road, and the traffic is very fast. However, these are fairly minor niggles in what was overall an excellent experience! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the hotel to any of my family or friends.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 238 which was a lovely room, a long way from reception, but very close to the spa.

Just got back from a night here. What a lovely hotel. So clean and modern. Took my partner and 3 children. The pool is amazing. The outside Jacuzzi is a must see. Had a large room which had double bed and sofa bed and travel cot. Staff all extremely helpful. Fanstastic and cant wait to go back already :) :) :)

Room Tip: Ask to be away from function room. Luckily we were in room 137 which is right next to the spa so no...

I am gob smacked by the service that me and my work colleagues encountered at this hotel. We were looking for a nice hotel to stay at as our work load meant we encountered very stressfull days so a calming, stress free surrounding was needed.

Well this is definately not the case at this hotel: Food menu is limited and expensive, bar staff rude and smiles seem to have been left at home, room service was ordered 4 TIMES with the comment "will be 10 minutes sir" given each time, only for me to show i was annoyed that i saw anyone after 1 hour.

High priced hotel with promises that should be avoided.

I am most concerned to read your comments and it is of course disappointing to note that your stay was not an enjoyable one and the service issues you have highlighted will certainly be actioned accordingly within the hotel.
Please note that your experience is certainly not indicative of the usual high standards we pride ourselves in and we do hope to have the opportunity to restore your faith in us in the not too distant future.

Kind regards

We stayed in the family room (Baccara) which was of a good size with a sofa area set aside from the sleeping area and a cot already made up - great space when travelling with a toddler.
Home-made, warm cookies and milk were brought to the room for our daughter, which was a lovely touch.
The standard of the room was very clean and well furnished, everything in good working order and plenty of storage space.
The Spa area and pool are very calm and relaxing - it's a shame we didn't have time to try the outdoor hot-tub!
We enjoyed the Chateaubriand dinner, which was cooked and served exactly as we'd requested (not many hotels or restaurants can get this right, in our experience).
All the staff we met throughout the hotel were very friendly, chatty and incredibly accommodating to the needs of travelling with a small child - it felt like we were given a very personalised hotel service.
Cottons has a very good reputation amongst local business and they did not disappoint.
All in all, we are sorry we could not stay longer and would happily return.

I am extremely pleased to read that your family stay was enjoyable and that the home-made, warm cookies and milk were well received by your daughter, these are just some of the smaller details which, hopefully, make a big difference.

Glad that you were able to take full advantage throughout your stay in all areas of the hotel and hope that we will be welcoming you all back in the near future.

Kind regards,

We stayed here on 8-10th nov , we had booked two rooms, which ended up 2 corridors away from each other. The hotel was very full on the Saturday night , with a number of parties. The noise was very loud all evening with children running around . The noise went on till 3am,with people opening and shutting the fire door to smoke . The spa was over run with children particularly in the jacuzzi were the were not supposed to be , the staff did nothing about this .Having come for a relaxing break this was very unsatisfactory .

Room Tip: Check out if there are a lot of parties booked

I am sorry that the parties we had in the hotel during your stay were noisy and disruptive and was detrimental to the relaxed stay you were hoping for.

Whilst we want our guests to enjoy themselves, we do try to police their conduct, but I will share your experience with my team to re-emphasise our need to be pro-active and firm in such matters.

We visited with our boys (4&6) were welcomed and checked in quickly. Our room was upgraded to a suite so lots of room for the four of us. The milk and cookies for the children was a nice touch and the fresh milk in your room for coffee. Ate in the restaurant both nights ( easier with the kids) the food was good but my usual complaint when traveling with children a lack of vegetables on the children's menu. The swimming pool was great and the boys loved it, only got a quick dip in the out door tub but good fun. The staff were all very helpful and made a fuss of the boys. Would return agin if visiting the local area.

Thank you for such a positive review following your recent stay and I am pleased that your sons enjoyed the “little extras” that we provide. We appreciate all feedback from our guests and I have noted your views on a lack of vegetables on the children’s menu and I will discuss this with my head chef.

Kind regards
