We had three groups meet for dinner and stay in this small hotel / large-ish B&B, including three kids and a number of young adults. We were well looked after. Rooms were clean and comfortable, although a little over warm. They were also quieter than I had expected for a hotel located on an A road. Staff were friendly and made a huge effort. However, small things let the place down eg older style TV's and set top boxes that didn't work. Breakfast was okay but nothing special. Dinner, on the other hand was excellent and, I thought, well priced. Its a nice hotel but, to me, lacked pizazz. It's also a bit on the expensive side compared to what we've seen elsewhere. Perhaps some guest beers in the bar, ditching the cardboard breakfast cereal boxes, and getting rid of those 'oh so yesterday' televisions! Do stop by for dinner!

The Cottage Lodge hotel and restaurant offers a home-from-home hotel experience, with good food, friendly staff and all the creature comforts a regular traveller could ask for. Definitely my hotel of choice for the Knutsford area from now on!

Booked here as somewhere to stay after a christening 5 minutes drive away. Slightly cautious in truth having read mixed reviews but any fears were unfounded.

Some friends who weren't going to stay over decided to anyway, and fortunately the Cottage had a free room. With about half an hours notice they sorted out the room/layout including a cot so full marks for flexibility.

The room was bright, clean, and spacious. Not the highest quality of furniture etc but we were there for one night so it wasn't important. Our room had a double, a single and a cot and it still wasn't cramped. Sure, the bathroom was a little dated but the shower worked acceptably well (which is very important for me) and there was a kettle in the room.

We arrived just before the kitchen shut, but we had little ones to deal with and Martin from Malta said this was no problem as long as we weren't too long getting sorted out.
In fact, this was the general tone - not a problem. We eventually ordered some bar food which was quite good (inc. good chips) and fair value for what it was. The bar doesn't have any beers on tap, only bottles, but Peroni was cold and £3 a bottle so we managed!

The breakfast was cereals, yoghurt etc plus cooked and they were quite happy to do a few extra bits of bacon and a bowl of beans for the children.

Overall we were very pleased with our stay here and felt it was very good value. Let's face it, it was £75 for the night for 2 adults, a 3 year old and a 1 year including cooked breakfast. I don't know quite what some people are expecting for this, but we would certainly recommend it to others. There were four families in our group who stayed there and everyone was quite happy with the hotel, the food, and the service. We would return without hesitation.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 7, which was upstairs at the back of the property, so less road noise. Road noise...

The website for this hotel showed pictures of lovely rooms and an extensive menu. The price quoted for bed and breakfast all indicated a 'boutique' style hotel which was just right to celebrate my husband's birthday and the location was ideal to visit the Tatton Park flower show.

What a disappointment, the room was seriously outdated with shabby bedlinen, the bathroom spartan with threadbare towels and a nasty black damp patch above the shower on the ceiling. The shower fixing was cracked so did not hold up the shower head well.

The menu was not as expected, it now resembled something from "Little Chef" in its latter days serving grills and fry ups, not ideal for a celebration meal.

The staff were generally helpful, one did recommend a perfect local pub for our birthday meal.

We were not impressed to find our room had been left open when we returned during the second day.

I should have smelt a rat when I read the cancellation policy and the fact that I had to pay for the 2 night stay before even seeing the room.

This hotel seriously misrepresents itself, it would be overvalued at half the price.

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbished room if you must stay.

We obviously did not live up to your expectations. As a B&B we offer clean comfortable overnight accommodation. Both Standard & Refurbished bedrooms are shown on our website, therefore there is no intention to misrepresent our offering nor do we purport to be 'boutique'. As a B&B we offer a varied selection of freshly cooked dishes - your perception of 'Little Chef' is unfounded, as is your comments re bedlinen & towels.
We do not agree that our offering is overpriced (£42.50 pppn inclusive of breakfast & VAT).

Attended a private function. The food was good and the friendly staff worked extremely hard to make the event a resounding success. Only adverse comment would be that the decor is looking a bit dated, hence the average rating.

A convenient stop over but far from perfect. Lovely big room but no soap or shower gel in room. When requested was only given a small shampoo and bar of soap! Had to request spare toilet roll also. Loose tap on wash basin. No towelrail or hook in bathroom. What is one to do with one's towel. Hang both towels over back of solitary chair in bedroom? Hairy bath...yuck!!! Couldn't get BBC on television.
Staff friendly and helpful but management and/or housekeeping totally incompetant.
Restaurant good value for money.

Room Tip: Quieter at the back

We held a party at The Cottage at the end of March 2012 for my parents 60th Wedding Anniversary.
The negative reviews on here prompted us to go for lunch prior to the party just to try it for ourselves. I honestly cannot understand the bad comments and what people really expect at the incredibly low price they charge midweek (£10.00 for 2 courses / 2 people... it's cheaper than McDonalds for goodness sake! I am amazed it isn't crammed with locals because I can't cook at home that cheaply)
That said I am not even making exceptions based on price as we had excellent hot food, well presented and served by very friendly and attentive staff in a very warm and cosy traditionally decorated room where everything looked very fresh and bright.

Now full of confidence, we confirmed the party for around 50 people, made some specific arrangements and ordered some special touches.
On the day of the party we arrived and everything was beautifully set up exactly as we had requested. We had drinks beforehand in the cosy bar area and were called through when the starters were ready to be served. We were all served within minutes (which is not easy with a large number of people eating at the same time), each course was superb, well served, hot and nicely presented... we had a wonderful memorable afternoon and wondered how we could have improved on it. It was perfect!

The room is a very nice size for 50 people for this type of event and tremendous value for money (higher than the special offer price quoted above of course but still very reasonable).

I have not stayed in the hotel so cannot comment on the accommodation but I do think it is very sad that the restaurant is generally so quiet as it is very easy to park and I doubt that anywhere for miles could offer the same value for what they serve.

It is a shame to see that the current owners are selling the hotel as I think they really care about what they do and with a few more positive comments on here could make a nice living out of the business... I wish you a happy retirement and hope that you quickly find a buyer.

Thanks for looking after us all so well last month and hopefully we will see you again for lunch before you leave.

Thank you for your welcome comments. Makes a pleasant change to get a pat on the back. Feel a bit like politicians at the moment - how does the saying go? 'You can please some of the people '---etc. We appreciate your good wishes for our retirement and,as and when it happens, are looking forward to being able to please ourselves.

In the meantime we shall continue to provide our usual friendly service.

One thing we do have to point out is that our offering is "2 Courses for £10.00 per person" Lunch & Dinner Monday-Saturday and Sunday Lunch - the restaurant is closed on a Sunday evening.
