The room exceeded the usual Premier Inn standard, and is the first Premier Inn I have stayed with a balcony!!

However, the experience was badly let down by the Road Chef restaurant. The menu for the evening was basic. Many tables had not been cleared, and floor cleaning was in progress at 18.30. It was more like eating in a second rate staff canteen - We will never use Road Chef again, but would use this Premier Inn again.

We were greated at the hotel when we arrived at midnight by a very friendly receptionist. She ensured we had a twin room, and made us feel very welcome.

The room was spotless, and well maintained. The room had a small balcony overlooking the duck pond. The bathroom was nice and clean too.

The Premier Inn eat as much as you like breakfast was ok. The rest of the services area does not open until 7am, so you enter the restaurant via the hotel itself. Hot food is cooked to order before 7am and you help yourself to everything else.

At £56 for the room on a Saturday night it was reasonable value.

We stayed here two years ago and thought it was great so booked for the outward and return trip again on route to Skye. The room was still nice with the view but the shower controls had a fault and it was difficult to control the temp. The main problem however was the food! Last stay we had a good selection of meals, this time only burger and chips type food or jacket potatoes. I opted for the latter and was told they didnt have them so I had the only other healthy option of a chicken salad but with very unfresh looking salad. The farce started the next morning at breakfast when we waited over 45mins for our food, there was no teabags, no hot water, no juice, no bowls, no glasses.......no management at all. We spoke to the manager who didn't really seem bothered and when we told the receptionist ,she told us she knew it was bad, had complaints every day and she never eats the food there! On our return journey we took in our own cereal to eat in the room. The evening meal was going to be a wimpy as that is the other food outlet there, but that was shut! So we ended up with a sandwich for our evening meal. Such a pity it has gone to pot as the place was a little a gem before.

For an off-motorway service hotel, this PTI is in a great spot. We were very suprised (even after reading the earlier reviews on this site) as to how nice this location is.

The room was standard for a PTI. For the four of us (2 adults, 2 children 12/14) we had one double/queen bed, a couch that made into a bed and a mattress on the floor. All of the beds were comfy and roomy for all of us and the kids beds would also be fine for an adult. The room was large and well-supplied.

There were lots of services as well - all in one building. There was a cafeteria-style restaurant, coffee, a store (where you could get a variety of products) and a Wimpy's.

The pond/lake in the back was wonderful. As I said above, even after reading earlier reviews, I had no sense of how large the area was. There is a path all around the pond that you can walk. We saw rabbits, ducks/ducklings, geese and herons. Considering how close we were to the motorway, it was amazing to see that much wildlife. It was a nice place to have a quiet evening after a long days drive.

For supper, even with all of the services there, we drove into Lockerbie to grab some food. The girls and I shared a pizza for 9.50 pounds and hubby had fish and chips for 3.50. With pop, our whole supper was only 14.50 pounds. Even converting that to Canadian funds, that was a good price.

We would stay here again without hesitation - even though the gas here was more expensive than just a few minutes down the road (our mistake of course - we always do seem to have bad timing!).

This must be the premier of travel inns! Conveniently situated just off the motorway, this is a tranquil haven for a one night break for the weary motorist. When arranging a booking here my one tip would be to request a back room. We were very pleasantly surprised to discover a clean spacious family room with doors opening onto a balcony. The view was stunning, a beautiful lake complete with swans and ducks with a back drop of rolling hills. After a filling breakfast the waitress gave our two small children a bag of bread to go and feed the ducks. Highly recommended for a relaxing stopover!
