Description: A great little Restaurant with rooms open for Evening Suppers 5 nights a week (closed Mondays & Tuesdays) serving locally sourced home cooked food to order in our cosy lounge bar. As we only have a limited number of covers and the table is yours for the night, booking really is essential.

Arrived at restaurant at 6pm with the sign saying this was the time food would be served. The man behind the bar who hardly looked at us said we are fully booked even though there was no one in the place. He then attempted a sarcastic joke along the lines of ,you should have rang ahead so I could tell you to keep on the motorway on your way to Carlisle. If indeed it was fully booked we would hardly go back again with that sort of attitude . I'm so glad other restaurants in the area were more welcoming.

Thanks for taking the time to place the review - we're sorry you feel put out. I understand you found us on TripAdvisor and our listing does suggest you phone ahead to book a table as we're just a small eatery with a limited number of tables.

We work on the basis that when eating with us, the table is 'yours' for the entire evening and as I explained on the night in question, all our tables were booked ahead for supper that evening.

Once again we're sorry we were fully booked.

food is consistently good, with good service, sometimes portions a bit on small side for some, would go more often if there were special deals or offers as it works out quite expensive for 2/3 courses and drinks

Many thanks for taking the time to post your review on TripAdvisor - we're really pleased you enjoyed your evening supper here at The Hightae Inn.

We source all our meat, fish and veg from local suppliers and never compromise in terms of the quality of food on offer. We're sorry you weren't entirely happy with portion sizes, however our aim is to try and achieve a perfect balance of quality over quantity.

We do have a Loyalty Card scheme in operation to encourage regular visits - ask about this next time you're in.

We have eaten at The Hightae Inn three times since mid November since finding this wee gem and it has proved consistently great! We have gone with different friends each time, all of whom have put it on their favourites list too...
The Inn restaurant has a lovely homely feel and the layout ensures you don't feel "in a dining room". The menu, presented on a procession of blackboards makes choosing hard and guarantees a return visit to choose the one next time you didn't choose this time!
The food served is well presented, using high quality ingredients and is your favourites with the chef's personalisation. The bar is well stocked with an interesting array of soft and alcoholic drinks and Mark (the owner) has good knowledge of and is keen to tell you about them all... He is a fabulous front of house host and has a wicked sense of humour!
We like to eat out locally at least once a week and enjoy what is on our doorstep (we live only 15 minutes away, in Dumfries) and would highly recommend this as a venue for this sort of wee treat... after all how often do any of us really appreciate what we have locally?

We went here for dinner. We loved it. Lovely warm welcome and a great menu. We were served promptly with drinks, with a nice explanation of what was on offer. The portion size was perfect, so we all managed 3 courses quite easily :-) The bread & butter pudding was absolutely fantastic. Lovely experience and we'll definitely be back.
