Best Western Dryfesdale Country House Hotel

This was a disappointing stay for a number of reasons. The property is largely in satisfactory condition, and there is plenty of evidence which suggests that they can deliver a positive experience for guests. However on this occasion, the hotel let itself down by: (1) Advising when contacted by phone 24 hrs. before arrival that a dinner reservation was not necessary; but then stating on arrival that it would be difficult because they were very busy; (2) poor maintenance standards reflected in (e.g.) a patio outside a "superior" room which was neglected, dirty, overgrown and unusable; (3) hit-and-miss housekeeping which left a room unserviced during a two-night stay; etc.

The receptionist sitting eating a "full Scottish breakfast" whilst on duty at the front desk would suggest that the staff team at this hotel are not very familiar with the standards associated with a 4-star hotel, although the hotel's management clearly understand what a 4-star hotel can command in terms of rate.

On checking out the receptionist's advice in relation to a query over standards was along the lines of "The next time you stay with us please bring these matters to our attention". There won't be a next time.

From the moment we arrived at the Dryfesdale we were made to feel at home. The staff were all excellent and our room was gorgeous, patio doors, power shower, dvd player, just what we were looking for.
We were served our meal in the Glenlouis Restaurant. The food was fantastic,we could not fault it. The staff were very attentive in the bar and restaurant.
Our friends are getting married in September at the Dryfesdale so we cant wait to come back again!

The Dryfesdale is a modernised and much extended manse that provides contemporary comfortable accomodation. The staff are efficient and helpful and the food excellent. I have stayed here twice now and shall, no doubt, use the hotel again. It's about a third of a mile from the motorway but I have found this to be a convenience while travelling in the region. Dinner, bed and breakfast and a few drinks work out at about £100 per head..but the food is something that the hotel is rightly proud of. The location is some way from the road and as such this affords a level of security for guest's vehicles.

The Dryfesdale can best be described as batting above its station. To charge £100 a night for the pleasure of staying in a hotel that sits by the side of a motorway is ridiculous. We were put in room 11 that just so happens to be located next to the function room and opposite the fire exit used by staff to plod around the hotel. We were woken at 5am on Saturday morning by the sound of someone literally smashing crockery over the other side of the fire exit and then at 8am on Sunday by hoovering and children running along the corridors. As spotted on another post, the bathrooms are reminscent of something out of the 70's with a scolding hot shower that didnt manage to get above a dribble. Thank God we were at an external wedding on the Saturday night and returned to the Dryfesdale very late as otherwise we would have been forced to sit through the whole event occuring in the next door function room that we had been warned would go on until 12.30. It didnt even occur to the manager when he was explaining this to us that perhaps we didnt want to partake in the celebration of two randoms. We then opened our curtains onto the patio the next morning to find the table and chairs had been used by wedding guests as a makeshift smoking area and fag butts littered the area. Down to breakfast where a member of staff, literally with his shirt soaked in sweat all over served us without any notion of anything being wrong. Finally to check out, where surprise surprise, the manager tried to over charge not only us but the other couple we were travelling with and another couple in front of us. The hotel proudly show off a book of favourable comments left by guests at reception which we concluded they must write themselves
