Fab Night it stared on the platform where we had been advised there had been a murder on the station and a chef inspector interviewed the three suspects. We boarded the train and had a fantastic four course meal while we were eating we were able to question the suspects and get clues off the inspector. It was so well done I want to do it again

The room was adequate but the prices of food not good. However it was a good place to stop with easy reach to the town. We found the town pleasantly suprising and we particulary enjoyed the visit to the railway.

Went to a Steam Fayre on a hot Sunday. 3 steam hauled trains running which were fantastic. Several of the stations have 'cafe' type tea room. We tried to get sandwiches at Loughborough - having only 15 minutes between trains and the young lady couldn't tell us how long they would take as the chef was still doing some breakfast orders...... REALLY.... come on how long does it take a competent trained chef to make a dozen ham sarnies early in the day and keep them cool! The buffet car on the train only had drinks, chocolate or crisps (I'm sorry'). The only saving grace was one station cafe manned by an elderly couple and fantastic scones!. The trains are fantastic..... but COME ON GCR wake up if we are train hopping because of limited time we want food and drink when we want it not when you THINK we want it.

We had booked Sunday dinner on the lunchtime dining train to celebrate a birthday. We joined the steam hauled train at Loughborough station, which has been magnificiently restored to its former glory, and were soon invited to order drinks to have with our meal, having settled down into the spacious first class comfy seats. Once we set off, we had starter of carrot and coriander soup followed by roast beef and yorkshire pudding. Dessert was rhubarb crumble and then there was coffee and mints to finish. All was very tasty, relaxing and the service was excellent. In order to allow time to eat the meal the train stopped on Swithland viaduct on the outward journey to Leicester with great views over the reservoir. Once we got back to Loughborough, and having received an unlimited travel ticket in with the price of our meal, we decided to take the train to Quorn where (because it was a special event weekend) there was an interesting demonstration of picking up and dropping off mail bags while a train passed at speed.

Food didn't really live up to expectations - roast beef was actually a rather tough piece of steak...so pleased I chose the veggie option which was very nice.
