Despite now living in the village for a few months, I hadn't been back to sample the delights of the Hammer and Pincers which I had experienced before on a few occasions.
My fiance and I really enjoyed everything about the meal and the service. We had the first service menu and at £18 for 3 courses, it's really good value and excellent food, presented beautifully.
I had the chicken liver parfait to start and it was heaven especially with the toasted brioche. My fiance had the soup which was pea and asparagus and he liked the flavour as I did when I had a taste. He went for the potato and onion tart with lots of vegetables as his main courses and I went for the pressed chicken thighs which were flavoured with garlic and parsley, they were served with a potato terrine and vegetables which included a divine carrot puree.
We still had room for dessert so he had one of his favourites, sticky toffee pudding and I had the ice creams as I really like the fact that the ice cream is all handmade here, it's not quite Italian gelato but it's still rather nice and you get unusual flavours.
The service was friendly and attentive and we will be back!
